Tent add-on for the HHR? anyone here have one?

http://www.autoanything.com/truck-te...0A2355172.aspx

They claim to have one that fits the HHR, and my wife wants one for next summer's travels. Would be cool for overnight stays at the odd Bluegrass festival or two, also.

Anyone here have one? Or one similar? worth the bother?

First I've seen. Not a bas idea, might be cool on a cross country trip. With the seats down a twin inflatable mattress fits nicely in the back.

The good thing is you wouldn't be charged for 2 tents like when you put up a screened dining tent along with your sleeping tent. I just don't think there's enough room. I wouldn't want to have to empty the car to go to sleep.

I was just thinking about one of these. I have a tent that fits in the bed of a pickup truck and I really like it. However, I no longer own a truck so this deal would be perfect. Sandy, you sleep in the tent area and keep all your gear in the car, no need to unpack everything, just the tent.

Good idea for parks where there are no bears, but in national parks where there are bears, you're not allowed to sleep near your food, and our food is in the car.

We bought this one: http://www.sportsauthority.com/produ...entPage=family

It supposedly is sized to attach to our Magnum but I think yours is very similar, only a bit smaller. Ours will free-stand also - and that's the saving grace. Even with the HHR, I think these kinds will adapt one way or another to it. All you gotta do is open the hatch and stick it up to the car, right?

We're going on a 10-day trip with 2 big dogs at the end of June - I'll let you know how it worked. Let us know what you ended up with.

Sorry, but it doesn't make sense to me - but if you like it, then go for it. When we go camping, we have a huge tent so that everything can be stored in it while we drive around and see the sights. With this add-on version, it seems to me it would be awkward to enter/exit when you're going to sleep (which I assume is what you would do in the car), and also to back up into the same spot each time you go for a drive and return to your campsite.
Just a question: Would you buy this so that you can store your camping gear in the tent and sleep in the car, or vice-versa? I just like the convenience of having everything in the tent.
Good luck no matter what you do - camping's awesome!

Am answering for me (butting in - sorry)...but I'll shut up after this....

You got it Phx - we had a mattress made for the back of the car, and the dogs get the tent & overflow (or vice versa if we feel like it). It puts the DVD, etc close to the car outlet, and will possibly be warmer and drier on cool nights.

Yeah, we expect to sleep in the car, with our 'stuff', in the tent. It's not for lounging around and storing stuff while we sight-see, but rather, a simple way to get some ZZZZs....

We have a travel trailer for real camping and week-long festivals, but on longer trips, or simple day trips, we'd rather use the car and not the old truck.
