the stock tires were ok in the snow. They don't plow anything here, so I got to test them out. They did ok enough for me to wait to replace them until they need it or until i have money for new ones.

Maybe its because I grew up in the era of nearly all RWD cars, but I'd rather have RWD in the snow than FWD. I find they are much easier to drive in the snow than FWD. Not to mention dry handling is worlds better with RWD than FWD. It's why BMW doesn't make FWD cars. My Catera was RWD and was excellent in snow. My single qualm about buying the HHR was that it's FWD.
Snow? I've seen that in pictures..LOL I to grew up with RWD and don't see the negitives. My first FWD car is my HHR and after Eibach springs and progress bar I find it ok. If the HHR was a rear driver I'd absolutly love it!

In general, the HHR is far better a car the the Dodge. If I have to buy another FWD car, the the HHR with proper mods is a great car.

A/C is great! 2.4 with 5 spd. is good on power and great on gas. I average 30MPG to and from work(60 miles round Trip) in L.A. Rush hour traffic. Fit and finish is very good and it is very comfortable. My wife has a PT Cruiser and my son has a Crossfire. I much prefer my HHR to both of them.

Haveing started driveing with three rear wheel drive Mustangs then switching to FWD, I will take the FWD any day in the winter. Much better traction. Yes it is apples to oranges but the FWD cars I have owned have all been better in the winter then the Mustangs I had, which I realize are not designed for snow. For a pure performance car I would go RWD all the way, for winter driveing though I find little beats a fwd vehicle.

I change my 4 18" summers with 4 16" snow tires in the winter and now I have to watch behind me in case the guy behind can't stop as fast. Last winter was effortless driving with 4 snows on.

I bought mine for $14,900 plus title and license. The deal was written in such a way as my trades negated any sales tax. I'm quite happy with mine so far, but I've only had it a few weeks, so I'm definitely still in that "honeymoon" stage. I would go with the HHR as it would be less expensive overall to own, both in fuel economy and insurance.

Hi guys how are you? thanks for all the great replies!!!
As for winter driving, last year, our province passed a law that makes it manditory to have winter tires..which i think is a good thing.
As far as winter driving, I think it's more a matter of your driving habits.
I currently have a volvo 850 wagon (FWD). after i got my winter tires on (yokohama ice guards) the car was sliding all over the place and it made me quite nervous. I brought it back to the garage where i bought the tires and the guy asked if i had an alignment done..i hadn't, and after he did it the car performed like a champ
BUT
Before this car i had, my beloved, 1996 chevrolet caprice police pack(4.3L) and i must say, equipped with a posi. diff. and new blizzaks, this was by far, the best winter car i ever had...got stuck in the snow once!!! and it's RWD...i grew up driving RWD and i find it more predictable in winter conditions then FWD..cause if the ass starts slidding out, just let go of the gas and it will straighten itself out....

Anywho i will go see a car tomorrow morning if i can..maybe the magnum...we'll see..
What i need is a car that can last me at least 4 years with little to no problems..i know with a new HHR (and all the warranties) i should be good...right????
but with a magnum..seeing as it's a few years old and coming off warranty in a year or two...can it last a few more years? or will it have issues?????
thanks

If you check the owners manuel the latch sytem rear connectors is where I connected the seat belt points. Purchased the seat belt from Checker Auto took a total time of about 30 minutes to install. Police told me it is legal and safe..have photos but so far been unable to upload, keep getting a file error....
