Tinny??!

I just had someone call HHR's tinny... They sound tinny is what he said.

Any Idea what he is talking about?

Small. In KY we say things are tiny of they are small and tinny if they are very small. Pronounced teene.

Not knowing what the conversation was about who knows but I was thinking more along these definitions of tinny:

3. lacking in timbre or resonance; sounding thin or twangy: a tinny piano.
4. not strong or durable; flimsy; shoddy.

Kinda like a pop can.

Now this is tiny to me this would be a nice option in place of the spare tire.

TINNY would imply thin cheap sheat metal. As thin as a TIN can. I am no autobody professional, but i test drove and inspected a 2007 HHR a few times and i found the hhr to be as good as any other car in its price range . Quite a few professional car magazine and internet auto reviewers have commented on its strong, solid structure. Too me, a good example of a tinny car would be the suzuki/ chevy sprints of the late '80's to 1990's. Now those were cheappppp tinny POS! excrement with a steering wheel.

The metal on the fenders and hood does look extremely thin, but it's no different to any other modern vehicle, a combination of the panel geometry and state of temper gives it its strength at minimum weight.

I still own my POS 89 GEO Metro which was basically the next generation Sprint! I <3 that car and it got me up and down the Grapevine (Highway 5) for 7 years! So while it has a coat hanger antenna, rust, and the peeling paint on the hood looks like a racing stripe, "Blue's" interior is pristine and all 3 cylinders purr like a kitten

As for the tinny metal--that car was literally rebuilt after I got caught in the middle of an accident in 1992. It has held up well so I have high hopes for Blackie!

+1

My Dad's '87 Sprint took two accidents and saved my sister's life on the second. Those were surprisingly tough cars and lasted longer than either of his old Chevettes.
