Totaled HHR is a good thing

A month ago my wife was hit by a drunk driver in our 06 2LT loaded HHR. Insurance finally decided $20,000 worth of damage so its a write off. Car had 40,000 kms and i had it for just under 2 years. Was insured for full replacement value up to 2 years old so much to my suprise yesturday i get a cheque for 33 grand. Now when i bought the car our dollar was about 80 cents to the US dollar and now its close to par so cars here are now cheaper. Was going to get a new SS version and test drove one and then decided to stop by and see my buddy who is a dodge salesman.A quick test drive in a new Charger and im hooked. I was never impressed with the quality of my HHR and had more than a few problems with it ( bad brakes, bad front end, rattles, wont start with FOB when cold, poor reception on premium sound system dead batteries in cold weather).
I loved the style of the HHR and i think the big three have finally got there ducks together with the return to the retro styles , but i was only fooling myself trying to get more ponies out of my HHR.
So come Tuesday i will have an 08 Dodge Daytona Charger sitting in the driveway and even end up with some spare cash in the deal.
Bye bye hhr i loved the way your black paint glinted in the sun.You saved my wife from being killed and took a hit like a champ . Couldnt even bring myself to take of pic of it all smashed up like that.Best to just remember the good old days. You took me to my wedding and looked so cool all dressed up,Just married written on the back window, i seen the country through your windows... what a blast we had.Even with your faults you were the best car i ever owned

Well I am glad you got enough money for a new car even if it is not an HHR. If I had mine totaled I would probably get something different too... but just for variety. I love my HHR!!!
I would have gone with the new Mini Cooper Wagon. In fact I might in a few years.

HHR`s have been going up $200.00 per year not down GM has not adjusted anything for the lower Canadian dollar.

Your spare cash won`t last too long after higher insurance rate and less MPG with the new Charger. The Charger would look great if it was a 2 door but all those 4 door remakes of the muscle cars Chrysler is making is plain hideous. You would have to be nuts to pay $50,000.00 Canadian for a 4 door SRT8 or a Super Bee.

My 2nd car was a 1973 Dodge Charger, Richard Petty blue w/black stripes, 3 on the tree, 318 V8. List price $3300.30. Of course I moved the shifter to the floor, added a few goodies and even put down some of the 340 Dusters. Ahh, those were some really good old days........

Well insurance is 16$ a year difference (having fleet insurance helps) and i already wrote off the depreciation of the HHR through my taxes. Drove the HHR 400000 Kms and it only cost me the price of gas and insurance. My chevy dealer would have sold me a 08 SS loaded for the same price as i paid for my 2LT loaded so i dont see how you figure how the prices have gone up.Maybe being a fleet purchaser helps?I bought the HHR for looks and it being good on gas wasnt a selling point to me.Driven reasonably the Dodge charger gets 25-26 miles to the gallon and my HHR was getting 28-30.So the math works out to Insurance gave me 33K back + 10 grand deprecation = 43K - 12 dollars a year difference in insurance math works out to $42,988. My HHR only came with a 60000km warrenty Vs 100000km with the Charger.Purchased the Charger for 37k as the GM of the dealership had driven it for 3k.They know when i purchase trucks i pay full MSRP as its all a write off anyway so the are more than happy to deal me with my personal purchases. Still trying to see where you think i got screwed? Seems like its the dream deal to me and if you dont like the car dont worry...your not driving mine anyway

West... I came to the HHR from a Dodge Magnum (same car as the Charger just with a different body).

You're going to love the performance and feel of the Hemi. Gas mileage on one of those is more realistically in the middle to upper teens unless you drive all highway. I drive 15 miles each day to work and 15 more home and was getting about 17 MPG with the Maggie.

In any event... hop over to http://www.lxforums.com and you will find the same community as we have here for owners of the Charger, Magnum and Chrysler 300's.

I still have an account over there as a76marine as well but I only check it once a week unlike several times a day that I do here. :)
