towing a boat
 

Hello everybody, I don't own a HHR yet, I'm thinking of buying one.
My question is does anybody tow any thing other then bikes, like a small boat that weights close to a 1000lbs.? I use a small truck that is a 4cyl. auto that is under powered. With a slightly smaller HHR with a 2.4 I think it would do OK.

I love old panel trucks, sadan delieverys and this HHR has my attention, and yes I love purple.

Chevy rates the HHRs towing capacity as 1000 pounds.

It's 1000 pounds including yourself. So if you weight is 100 pounds you would be towing in theory 1100 pounds and it could casue stress on to the car. Thats what the car manual said in some form of writing.

:) I have smaller engine and I tow a kayak trailer that I built myself.Total wt I'm not sure of ,but kayaks [2] bikes[2]and trailer weigh about 700 to 800 lbs.I should mention I live in south western wi. which is very hilly[conterary to popular belief I might add.]I have no problems so far going uphill[ about 300 to 400 rise on occasion] and trailer tracks really nice and true. I just hope it is a really small ,small boat you are pulling. Is it?

The boat is a fishing boat and motor weights in at 115lbs. the total weight
boat, motor,trailer and gear is 975lbs.
I have another question how much ground clearance? I'm thinking about while driving in the snow.

The towing capacity of a vehicle has very little to do with the weight of the driver or cargo. The tongue weight(10-15% of the trailer) does affect the total carrying capacity of your car or truck. This is where you would deduct the 100lbs from the carrying capacity of your vehicle. If you are towing a trailer with 4-200lbs fishing buddies then I would suggest that you take it easy getting up to speed and do not "push it" by passing. Small fishing boat,no problem.

Only reason I'd get a hitch would be if I go a sea doo. That'd be awesome to get a seadoo painted the exact color as my hhr. Id just tow it everywhere

I'm thinking about getting a wave runner / jet ski (haven't decided yet). One thing I'm wondering about is how well hidden is a hidden hitch? Does anybody have one installed or have any info?

Not very well hidden. The one I saw curves out over the rear bumper.

I have a hitch on mine... will put some photos up ASAP.
It's a uHaul hitch. Because of the tire well, a hidden hitch would be difficult. IMHO...
