Towing a trailer

I imagine this has been talked about before but I couldn't find it, so here goes. Has anybody put a trailer hitch on thier HHR, and how much did you pull with it? I'm thinking about towing a small trailer with a big ole Harley on it. I normally don't like to trailer my bike but the ole lady has a really bad knee and just can't sit on the bike with her leg bent that long. My bike weighs about 900 lbs and the little trailer i have weighs about 300 lbs. I was just wondering what kind of hitch it should have and if I would need to install a transmission cooler. Thanks for any info. Sonny Martin

Lots of chatter on THIS thread. I'll see if I can find anything else and come back and post it if I do.

I tow my Honda Foreman with my HHR. They suggest a max weight of 1000 lbs.

Mileage goes down to 22 mpg and it tows good. I installed a Hidden Hitch.
My water temp runs at 219 if i leave it in drive, I Drive lets it run at 204 - 208.

It pulls real good without the snow blade and my Deer damaged hood strapped on the ramp.

Pulled a 800 lb waverunner about 200 miles to Lake of the Ozarks. Outside temp was 100, and my HHR ran fine. Sure kills the gas mileage. I put on a Hidden-Hitch

Maybe you need that snow blade on the front of your HHR to catch the deer. Thanks for the replies so far. I like this forum because if you can't find an answer here you probably don't need to know any how! Sonny Martin

I have a DrawTite hitch on mine. I pull my lawnmower regularly on a 6 foot trailer. I also have pulled my father in law's jacked up 4 person golf cart on a 16 foot trailer. It handles like a dream when I am pulling!

Here is the hitch,

Here is what was left of the golf cart after mother in law got hold of it. (its been rebuilt since then) Just to give you a clue of how much it weighs.

When you guys are towing your ATV's and golfcarts are you the only ones in the vehicle? I know the 1000lbs limit is for just the driver and fuel but having the wife and 2 kids cuts into that limit pretty good.
