TPMS learn mode without RKE
I have a 2009 Chevy HHR , ex rental, when I purchased it, it was without an RKE fob. I recall, the Chev dealer I bought it from told me (right or wrongly, dealers lie) that because it was ex rental, it did not come with an RKE fob.
I added an aftermarket one. However, I cannot get it to enter TMPS relearn mode, although all the other RKE functions, including remote start work.
Is it the RKE? Or do some models firmware not allow TPMS relearning this way?
The manual states.
> Press and hold the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE)transmitter’s LOCK and UNLOCK buttons, at the same time, for about five seconds to start the TPMS learn mode.
> The horn sounds twice indicating the TPMS receiver is ready and in learn mode.
How else can I get it into TPMS learn mode? Any ideas?

You can try with a EL-50448 tool (ebay lots to choose from less than $20). Depending on manufacture date it may be disabled.
The dealer lied, you do have RKE he just didn't give you the fob.
I don't know what after-market item you have. Do you mean a fob with programming module or a fob and had it programmed or a complete system?

Thanks for responding - I see there are multiple issues like this in the past. As I understand the EL-50448 tool only works once you get the system into TPMS learn mode. I may have misunderstood this - if I'm wrong let me know.
I bought a RKE fob (remote keyless entry) with a programming tool or Module (Dorman - I think). Learning the new remote was quite trivial, it took all of 30 seconds. It uses the original receiver.
My issue is that I can't get the car into TPMS learn mode with the aftermarket RKE fob. I am pretty sure the RKE can transmit two buttons held down at the same time, because that's how the remote start works.
So I'm suspecting the firmware in whatever computer reads has that functionality disabled- as you mentioned and also judging from some of the other responses. FWIW, I no longer live anywhere near the dealer I bought the car from.
I am hoping an OBD tool of some kind can do it - it must have been setup originally. I have a cheap OBD reader, but that doesn't help.
The car is now 10 years old, one of the sensors is intermittently and annoyingly failing, and the others are probably going to follow soon.

The left front turn signal does not light up when you hold the lock & unlock? Key ON.
However we have heard that some brands of fob furnished with those kits don't do the RCDLR thing. If the circuit board has a LED on it that is probably the prob. You can get Genuine fobs (that program with the same module) for a pittance on ebay etc. I have a used one for shipping cost.
Sensors don't normally fail, they are telling you something when the code pops up. Tells us what code you get we can help. My turban is now on; the question is what does P0016, P0014, P0011, P0010.P0013 or P0017 mean? Answer nothing to do with failing sensors.

G'day again,
Yes, indeed the left front turn signal does not light up when you hold the lock and unlock, Key on (The manual also states the handbrake or parking brake must also be on). I've open the fob, there is no led in the circuit. Two chips, (u1 and U2, two Capacitors C1 and C2 and what is labelled an inductor (L1) although is doesn't look like any inductor I've ever seen. All SMD (surface mount devices) of course.
So, logically I've got a fob that doesn't do a complete emulation. If you have a used one you're happy to part with for shipping cost (+ the cost of a beer or two), drop me a PM with your details. I still have the programmer that came with the aftermarket fob, should be good for two more program cycles.
As for sensors, I meant the TPMS sensor, not an engine sensor. P0016 is for a camshaft position sensor.for example, P0014 and P0011 is camshaft timing, The others are also all camshaft related. Not today's problem.
Thanks
