undercoating

Hi,

I have a 2007 HHR on its way from Mexico. Will it be already undercoated at the factory or must this be done on arrival at the dealer? I am a firm believer in undercoating, but once should be enough. Your thoughts or experiences please.

Here in the states, that's something the dealer will offer to sell you. My boyfriend used to work for a Ford dealer in their detail shop and that was one of the things he did on new car preps if the customer ordered it.

This topic has been discussed in entirety on a previous thread. To your advantage, other Canada members also provided opinions. You might want to use the search function.

Deb's right, as usual!

Here's one of the threads https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/show...t=undercoating

I would give your dealer a call, I'd be willing to bet that they do it. To the best of my knowledge though, the factory does not do undercoating. I think that was part of your question.

I have bought a few new cars and never had 1 of them undercoated and never had a problem. Is it more of an issue where it snows all the time?

Back in the 1970's I had a new truck undercoated with Rusty Jones (Hello Rusty Jones, goodbye rusty cars). Back then, yeah....now....they treat the steel so differently to prevent corrosion that I don't have the undercoating. And being surrounded by several busy highways, they use LOTS of salt in the winter. Haven't had a problem with my 2001 S-10, and don't expect any with my HHR.

Down here in Austin, we don't really need the undercoating (no salt on the roads and no salt air).

Growing up in NY, it was something you'd get done at a shop that specialized in the undercaoting, like Ziebart (not sure if they're still around or not).

Yeah, I can imagine. Living on the coast in the salty air like that is just as bad as 4-5 months of salt on the roads in the North.

Try living in the Northeast with the road salt and the salt air. At least it's always different in New England....."If you don't like the weather, stick around for a minute. It'll change"

BTW - Ever notice that most undercoating companies quietly went away?
