Just curious how everyone keeps the Underhood / Engine area clean?

I have a little over a 100 mile commute as well as I live about a 1/2 mile from a paved road & I like to try and keep my vehicles somewhat clean. Most vehicles I've sprayed everything down when I clean the vehicle or when I change the oil. I had a Crown Victoria who's ignition coils, by their design, that didn't cooperate with this very well that's why I'm asking, Thanks!

 

I just use a bottle of detailer & microfiber towels.

 

Simple green on a warm motor and a gentle shower spray gets all the dirt and dust off. Then the detailer and toweling. Just dont BLAST the water on the engine.

 

I always hand wash my car and hand dry the engine compartment and door jambs and inner doors.Everything looked like new until I blew a piston and got oil all over but the dealer cleaned up all the mess.

 

i used some engine degreaser/detailer from autozone.
CO1 or something.

spray it on, drive the car for 10 minutes, hose it off and dry with a towel.

makes everyhting shine.

 

Believe it or not, A bottle of Coke (coca cola). Just pour it all over the engine and let it sit for a few minutes, and rinse off. Wipe dry with microfober towel..... You even get a nice caramel smell for a while when you start it up. This is what a lot of heavy duty mechanics have used for years to get rid of grease and grime from an engine. Been doing it every couple of months since I got this car, and the dealership always comments on the cleanliness. Kinda makes you think about the drink though don't it!!

No Detailer and mirco here too.

If you have a lot of oil or grease get White Lightning cleaner. It is the best I have used to clean up engines.

 

it is great stuff , but be careful where you put it. i wouldn't want it on my paint full strength. it is not necesary to use it straight out of the bottle. i do not recomend using it straight on anything with a finish that i care about , since i put it on a almost new pair of tennis shoes , threw them in the washing machine. when i took them out , they were clean , but most all of the white was gone , only bare leather left. i think it is very simular to bleach. and maybe worse.

 

i use tire shine on the black stuff, gives it that new look when u buy cars. and the rest i use soap/water or simple green/water ..

 

simple green and hose off. eco friendly to if ur concerned about that.
