Thumbs down Update on repair...

So I got an estimate today at $339 to refinish and repaint the bumper and fender...

And it turns out that the other guy does not have a valid insurance policy based on the info he gave to the police. So now an investigation has to take place to see if he possibly just switched over to another policy or if he's just a regular freeloader.

If it turns out that he has no insurance at all, my uninsured motorist coverage has a $250 deductable on a $339 repair...

It's really not that big of a deal to get the damaged fixed... it's not like it's a gaping hole or cracked light housing, etc. It's just the principle... I'd deal with the hassle of it on my end if it means more hassle on his end. I've already spoken to my attorney and discussed my paths to recourse, so I'm not worried about him getting away scott-free here. Call me an a****** but I have way too much free time on my hands to let him off the hook.

My insurance is begining the investigation now and they should be back with me in the next 2 to 3 days. I'll see what happens then. As of right now, there are no set plans yet for a repair.

Good luck, my friend - hopefully the legal system helps out the nice guy on this one! It really peeves me when I hear about things like this - people who are involved in collisions (I've learned from my law enforcement buddies not to call them "accidents") and don't have insurance or lie their way out of it. I was in a fender bender years ago with a guy who didn't even have a valid driver's license - these people shouldn't even be on the road! But, then again, people like that will always f- up the system one way or another. No wonder the government teat has been suckled to the point of exhaustion! Anyway, like I said, good luck - may the force be with you!
