Upgraded intermediate steering shaft?

Anyone know if there was an intermediate steering shaft upgrade after 2007? My understanding is that they are prone to failure. Thanks

Not so much prone to failure, more like a frequent point of failure. I have had 2 high mileage HHRs with no problem.

Thanks for replies. Has anyone had any experience with the one available from Rockauto? They have them from Perfect Parts for $154.00 canadian which is a good comparable price.Have the steering column rattle hope to get lucky with this fix. Throwing parts I know!

I only remember 3-4 mentions of people replacing them here.

Rockauto is usually pretty solid. If you have an issue they will take it back. Don't know about upgrades, though.

Read oldblue's account, I seem to remember he had a problem with getting wrong parts because the parts book was wrong.

Gonna go ahead and order. I've dealt with them before for shocks struts and rotors with good service and at half the price of GM I can't resist. Thanks for input.

I ordered one from Rockauto. It made that tell tale clunk sound from the first day. I hate having to climb under the dash etc to replace that thing so I let it ride. One year later it is now intolerable - WAY worse than the original part.
