Angry My second visit for brakes!

I just got my HHR back from the dealership. This was my second trip for the rotors. This time I convinced them to reface them.

6800 miles and I had to cut the rotors. I live the mountains but less than half of my miles are driven on mountains. The funny thing about this trip was the comments from the Service Manager.

He told me that it may happen again unless I stop heating up the brakes on hills. I wanted to say "How the %$#@ am I going to not use by brakes coming down a mountain, did I by a HUGO or a Chevy?" What I did say (which is the truth) I dowshift every time it is called for. That's the best I can do. The rotors should not warp under these conditions.

I hope this is not going to be an issue every 5000 miles?

Isn't the size range stamped on the rotor ?

I live in upstate NY, we are know for using the most road salt of anywhere. Over the years I've had the rust do a number on every disk brake rotor I've had. So far so good with the HHR, only only about 2K. Does any body know if anyone makes rotors out of stainless steel? That may be the answer. At least around here the rust get in the "fins", screws up cooling and it's warp trouble even worse then.

call chevy

make sure everyone with this problem is notifying Chevy. So we can all have it documented. The problem might be bigger than we know..

Unfortunately, rotors seem prone to warping in just about any car these days. Maybe the expensive German cars are different, but I wouldn't count on it.

I haven't experience it on my G35.. mainly to I went to bigger race style rotors..

Also in the HHR , I again went to larger 12 inch rotors... with swirl cuts to reduce heat build up....

My in-Law's HHR Needs rotors cut at 6000 miles too

There has to be some issue with the rotors. Initialy I felt the issue when driving 60 and rapidly breaking to 40. This made the wheel shake.

I drive fast and brake hard often. (See HERE and HERE for examples.) I have also taken a few trips to the mountains and back without problems. We have also had unusually hard rains this year in SoCal, and I've driven in a lot of water. Putting my HHR through all this, I have still not had any problems with warpage or brake vibration of any kind.

I would recommend that you approach your sealer and DEMAND new rotors get ordered. Turning rotors not only shortens their effective life (you bought a NEW car!), but if you have a bad batch, the problem won't go away. We have already read a couple of stories from HHR owners who had theirs turned only to have the problem "resurface" shortly after (sorry, couldn't help it! )

Best of luck!

if anyone has had this issue...please give Chevy a call 1800 222 1020...seems like all they did for me was resurface them but should I have demanded new rotors?
