Waxing & Paint Protection

Let me start by, I used the search function to try and see if I could find a similar thread with no success so if I'm re-posting a topic SORRY!

Anyhow was curious what folks use to clean/wax their HHR's to keep them looking pretty. Mine has just come through its first rain and the dirt makes me sad to see. I was looking into a product the Salesman that sold it to me suggested and wondered if anyone had personal experience with it. www.5starshine.com

I just run it through the carwash and I dry it off with a clean baby diaper. lol..jk but yeah. I just use the carwash around the block. I just don't use the carwash brush. I use a sponge instead to prevent from scratching the paint too much. Some of those brushes at the carwash can be brutal.

Ok, I am ~REALLY~ hoping I am not violating forum protocol here, but I asked this in another HHR forum and got some great feedback, so you might want to look there.

I had planned to use Zaino, but never had the time to do it right. I ended up going with Meguiar's Gold Class Wax and Spray Detailer. I wax every month and use the spray-on detailer in between.

I also use "Invisible Glass" on all my glass and can't recommend it enough! The stuff is fantastic. I've been quite happy with the finish I'm getting from Meguiars:

Not planning on switching anytime soon!

Zaino, Zaino, and more Zaino. However, when I run out of Zaino I may try Menzerna. I've read that it is an awesome product. Whatever you use, please don't take your HHR through a carwash.

:) I am semi-retired, but my former company, (now owned by my son) sells car polish, wax and auto detailing products, so I have access to most all waxes, except Zaino. I used to swear by Colonite (which is very durable, but hard to use). For the past year I have strictly used Meguiars NXT (Next Generation). Not only does it provide a very deep shine, it is extremely easy to use. Using a small foam applicator, you polish the entire car and let it dry. Then buff to a great shine with a microfiber towel. It is hard to beat. In addition, it seems to be quite long-lasting and even withstands an occasional wash at the brushless car wash.

* Note: When using the foam applicator to wax a car, if you happen to drop the applicator, always be sure that it lands "face up" so that dirt does not become imbedded into the wax on the applicator. They don't tell you this in the instructions, but this is very important. LOL

By the way, when going to any car wash, I do NOT recommend having the car waxed, as have had past problems in the wax sealing in some of the rinse suds. Just go for the cheapest wash (no wax of any kind). Then take it home and in one hour you can apply a nice coat of Meguiars NXT or other similar product. I always use a brushless car wash, as don't like replacing mirrors, like the one on my wife's Mercedes a few years ago. That was my last trip through a conventional (brush) car wash. (The car wash would not pay for my mirror, but wanted to fix it with some wire and tape - no thanks). When I heard the cost of a new mirror, I later spent about two hours and fixed it myself.

I swear by Meguiar's as well. I've been using there products for almost 10 years, I like the fact that they have alot of products that are easy to use and turn out professional results.
