weapon intake?
The only benefit I can see on any "high flow" intake is at WOT and thats all( no turbulance or press drops to disrupt smooth flow).and who actually drives like that enough to take advantage of it?? Dyno pulls are all done on WOT pulls, correct? So, since these cars are driven on the street, real time numbers are nil. If your a drag racer or course driver maybe you can make use of it.These are made ( in theory) for max air flow and thats not an everyday thing in normal driving. Face it, the real reason people buy them is so they have a reason to open their hoods at the local drive in........Now,,on the OLDER cars...........
Hello, I belong to the NorCal HHR club,, our president forwarded an email from Weapon-R to the club, they were looking for a test mule so they can get CARB certification for one of their cold air intakes. The first email they sent didnt get any takers, but when they upped the ante and threw in a 1000$, I caved in. I have the 07 2LT 2.4 and that is the car they wanted. I drove my car to their shop in So San Fran and left it for them to do their testing. I was told it would take 3 weeks, partly because they have to take the car to Ontario to where the CARB testing takes place. All the R&D takes place at their SF shop. It has been almost 3 full weeks that they've had my car. In the mean time I am driving a rented (they are paying) 08 Honda Accord. When I get my car back I will be more informed and will hopefully have good news to report.
Stay tuned.... :)
Stay tuned.... :)

wow
for $1000 , i would have driven to ca from nc...i drive that far every week for half that $ , anyhow , so it would be no big deal....+ i'd have a new intake and a rental to use on my ca vacation
...i was just read all these posts about aftermarket cais really doing nothing...i respect everyones opinion , and understand what some are saying....so , i guess turbos , and blowers also do nothing because of the throttle body being the most restrictive part of the intake

Hi. I have a Weapon R intake on my 07 2.4 and love it. I have never thrown a code. I like the sound it makes compared to the stock air filter and how it opens up the top of the motor (which I have power coated my valve cover). I believe it accelerates better then with the stock air filter as the motor gets more air. I have not, to date, put on the flexable tubing nor wrapped the tubing to keep it cooler but don't see the benifit for a stock motor. I know you could get cold air to it either by using the driving light openings and yes even under the front, but considering I drive this year around it seemed impractical especially getting it from under the front bumper. Yeah yeah I know it is sucking in hot air. I just wanted mainly to say that I have never thrown a code. John
How about we throw in a wrench on that thinking...everytime air has to make a turn, bend around a bump, go thru a pressure drop because of different sizes and shapes of the same tube, it affects total airflow....period.True..stock may not be "restrictive' but it sure has a lot to be desired in practical design. The straighter the flow the better the flow...call it volume if you like. So, it could very well be that the aftermarket straight tube flows significantly better to offset the thermal degredation..
Air gets very turbulant when having to cut around corners and thru mazes, to the point where it can actually set up a wall 'restricting' airflow..ever watch a river that makes a sharp bend? what does the water do around this bend? Same theories.....

Weapon-R Intake
I just got my HHR 2LT, 2.4 Auto back from Weapon_R..
WooHoo,, I was lucky enough to be first in line when they sent the email to our NorCalHHR Club president looking for a test car. I had the car they wanted and drove about 200 miles to drop it off to them in San Francisco. They paid for a rental and got me an 08 Honda Accord with a 2.4 VTEC,, Nice car, you sit lower in the that car so getting my HHR back is like having a new car all over again. The Honda is laid out more like a race car, sitting lower and the shifter sits a little higher, where the HHR is more like sitting upright and the stick is farther from reach,, anyway, Pictures of the intake are posted in the Users Gallery under Novadude, It is the SecretWeapon type of intake, not the Dragon, according to their website it lists for 215$. I will get the CARB sticker once they install and test on a Hyundai Accent. Guess they need to prove it works on 2 separate type vehicles. Not sure why, maybe someone might be able to explain that one. I will say it sounds pretty throaty when you accellerate now,, also it's a lot easier to spin tires from a stop. The R&D tech told me it should be a 10% HP gain.. Not sure how to tell tho, Also he said he was getting 28mph according to the display doing 80 on the way back from CARB testing in Ontario. We live in a flat valley so, I suppose thats possible, but when I drove it for the first time this morning, I was doing 72 mph and my mileage display said I was getting 27 mpg... So I think I will wait before giving any stats.

I saw this post and I am definitely interested (as I live 30 min away from Ontario, California). Do you happen to know when the carb will take full effect? Also, which intake was going in? The Dragon or the other Weapon R intake?
It is the Secret Weapon intake, (215$ retail on their site) you can see pics in the Gallery, "novadude" is the name of my gallery. I have been monitoring the mileage and so far I have seen a 60 mile increase in fuel range per tank, using reg gas, according to the digital info center. That equates to 2 free gallons per tank.. at todays prices that's 6$ per tank. Now, I admit I wasnt hot roddin it, I was purposely taking it easy. Still, I have seen a pretty nice gain on mpg, and also a good performance gain. I was told the CARB approval will be forthcoming once they get another car tested,, the car they're looking for is a Hyundai Genesis. The same deal applies that I got, according to them,, 1000$, free intake, plus paid rental car. So far I am very pleased with the Secret Weapon intake from Weapon-R.
it super tricky
it's got a tube inside a tube...it defies gravity
.....i really do want 1 ...i did see alot of good reviews...i just can't seem to justify spending over $100 for a piece of tubing and a filter no matter whos name is on it....but i'm tesing the Jet stage 2 module and i'd really like to see if a modified intake will help...i can tell it's not breathing correctly....but it may be an exhaust issue.
