Sorry, Sleeper, but no the 18’s are in the basement, waiting until my traditional summer wheels install in April 15th or there abouts. Today it’s 35 degrees F and climbing to a high of 45, so it timing chain day, and new VVT solenoids.
Blue- That makes sense. Oh a heat wave.. Those wheels will be sweet on Black Swan.
I’m just changing mine in the BlackSwan, at 120,499 miles, it developed a rattle and a CEL code P0014 so, I popped off the valve cover and saw this limp chain
Notice how the chain drops down between the cam sprockets, might as well save a damaged engine and change it.
So a new timing chain and balance shaft chain, of course guides and tensioner sand the Melling front guide upper bolt .
I’m taking my time, spend 4 hours today and tomorrow I’ll finish it up.
So, to answer your question, 110,000 to 120,000 miles.
OH!!! I got 125k, so I guess that goes into the pending list! Thx!!!
Today, back into the garage to reassemble the 2.4, the timing chain required two sets of hands , to hold the crank link in the 5 o’clock dot and manipulate the intake cam sprocket into position then the exhaust side! It took 3 tries but I got lined up correctly, but I’m in no hurry , so, I took it slow and easy , I’m getting to old for this !
Took my time, reassembled the front cover with new crankshaft balancer seal, serpentine belt and tensioner, the top of the engine ignition parts .
Shaking with fear , I turned the ignition key and it fired right up, no leaks, no codes, no rattle sound.
I inspected the front guid it is cracked at the top bolt hole and the tensioner guide was damaged at the bottom the plastic guide was loose from the metal .
Seems I dodged a bullet, and avoided a set of bent valves and or damaged pistons.
I was considering that , but it’s not making any noise and with the chain off the shaft and bearings were good. Plus I couldn’t crawl under there or reach down from the top right now!
There’s snow coming and Sweetie wants the Terrain back in the garage today! So I cleaned the oil mess off the floor, it’s a mess when you remove the front cover , the oil pump holds oil and it drops that on the front cradle when you remove it .
So today , she’s headed out for lunch with friends, I’ll finish garage clean up , then a drive in the BlackSwan and reinspect it for any leaks.
My daughter has been having trouble lately, with randomly her HHR will not start. Key on, dash lights on but wont crank. She keeps trying and eventually it will start.
Today it happened in the driveway and I was home, so I got a chance to look into it.
First thing I noticed the security lock lamp was always on. I tried a different key and nothing. I tried to use her remote unlock and nothing happened. I changed the battery in her remote unlock and tried again.
The door locked. I hit the unlock and it unlocked and I saw the Security lock lamp flash 3 times then go out. Not it starts ever try. Weird ?
