Under my hood by the 2.4 Dip-Stick is about a 1/4" tube poking upwards, Not connected to anything....

I can't figure what the purpose of this is ??

 

It's for various air cleaner mounts for various models. I found out that one of mine is what is used on my mom's Cobalt.

 

I have the same thing on my 2.2 and was wondering what it was for.

I was almost too embarassed ta ask...

 

I owndered also when I got mine. Then my mother got her cobalt and I was looking under the hood one day and noticed here air cleaner used it.

 

Suddenly things are looking clearer now !!! Makes sense..

Ah yes, the infamous floating nipple

 

I noticed this the other day and was wondering the same.

Any chance of this helping us use air intakes meant for other models?

 

I saw that thing when I was looking to buy my HHR, and thought "what is missing there?"
I had the salesman pop the hood on two other HHRs to verify that something didn't belong there.

That's funny regarding the "floating nipple" thread, but I never would have thought to used "nipple" in the search...
