I just spent 2 weeks looking for a new company car. I wanted another HHR but the prices were all too high. The cheapest one was an '06 for 12K with 72k miles on it. I wound up getting a PT Cruiser because they have tanked in price at least here in California. I got the '07 PT for $8900 with 25k on it.

The dealer was trying to hose you.

Well my wife and I talked it over and I also spoke with my father who has a dealers license for buying at auction and has been a mechanic for 30+ years and we came up with a solution. I love the HHR to much to sell it and only was gonna trade it in because of a job oppurtunity required me to have a truck. Just thought a trade-in would be quicker and painless(apparently not) So my dads boss offered me a position with his company being a maintaince man with a company vehicle and I can keep my HHR. It was a total surprise to me to get the offer but my dads boss has been looking for someone and didn't know I got laid off yesterday. When he foundout he called me right away and said don't look elsewhere. Now I can tell The dealership Shove It! in not so many words.

Congrats on the Job. Back to what was being talked about, they tried sticking it to you for 7k for the HHR. They know since its a car in decent shap they can turn around and sell it for 12-14k easy.

Dealer's make more money off Used car's then New. Buddy of mine use to be a Mazda Dealer.

Most dealers do not want most used cars. As stated by others sell it out right.

They did not want to give me anything for my 100,000 11 year old truck but I sold it in one day for over $5k in a private sale.

I think they cut the trade-in amount to make up for the loss on the truck they were selling. Large trucks are selling way below cost just to get rid of them. My dealer used to have more trucks than cars now there are only a few on his lot but tons of HHRs, Cobalts, and Malibus. They finally saw the light!

Just for reference, Prior to my SS I had a loaded 07 Fall Limited Edition (5 speed) and I got $13,500 back in January, they may have lost some value, but not that much.

I almost thought about the SS they had in the show room but it was a demo with 2500 miles on it. you could see scratches on the rear bumper where things had been taken out and put in and the still wanted full sticker price of $26,650.

$26,560 for a demo??? I bought mine in July for 22,900. Couldn't find HHR's new or used anywhere. I coulda had a full size extended cab pick-up for the same price. gas hit 4.39 a gallon here and dealers couldn't give away trucks. HHRs were scarce...
Paid sticker for the HH but got $2500 for a 12 year old firebird V6 and $2K from the GM mastercard plus 0%. That I couldn't pass up.
