What kind of car did you give up for your HHR?

My last car was a 99 Acura CL.
White with hand done black pinstripes. I also installed an amazingly acurate sounding, quality polk and kenwood system in it. (also hellishly loud when I wanted to go deaf.....)
.....but I sold it to a friend, bought something more my style.

2004 GTO. I didn't give up as much as I accepted that I didn't drive it enough to justify keeping and wanted something I could take the wife and dogs on our various outings. We usually took the 2500HD Silverado and it was crazy to be getting 12MPG just to go sight-seeing and hiking.

I don't know about you, but I didn't think putting two dogs in the back seat of a GTO with it's awesome leather was something I should do. I dunno, it might just be me. Same for my wife's SRX. The crates would fit but it just wasn't something I wanted to do.

I wanted some power (the SS isn't a GTO but considering the fact I did no burn outs or racing in the GTO, I could live with a little less).

The SS met the need for surprisingly good MPG, plenty of space for the dogs in their crates and had some decent power.

We both agree we made the perfect choice with the SS.

My 250hp (upper gears) red auto SS replaces a 140hp gray manual '06 Honda Civic, which replaced a red auto 250hp Porsche Boxter S. I got the color, power and auto back from the Boxster, while gaining more storage than the Civic.

91 Olds Bravada that was my winter beater so I can keep my 90 Lumina stored away. That Olds was in great shape and practically maintenance free, hate they had to crush it. But I couldn't pass on the clunker deal, $4500 for a vehicle I paid $1000 bucks for 6 years ago! With dealer incentives I got my 09 LS for $12,900.00.

My 2004 PT Cruiser... with 171,000 kms it was a great car but not for the last year owning it as the power steering went leaking (a $1000 fix) and control arm bushings needed replacing again (3X) and still had brake pad/rotor problems up front, time to say goodbye to it (had a 2001 PT before it without all those problems) ... Now its time for start the mods on my Panel HHR as soon as the weather improves.

I am a 2009 Toyota Matrix owner considering buy a 1LT to replace it. We have a 2006 2LT with 43K miles that had NO issues during warranty and continues to be problem free. Have not replaced the battery or the brakes (but two of the tires).

I was considering buying another HHR before I decided on the Matrix but did not want to have "twins" in the garage. Now I am second guessing that decision.

I am curious if anyone sees a big difference between the 1LT (2.2L engine) and 2LT (2.4L engine). 99% of the driving is in city or short highway hops.

Am I crazy for considering dumping my "reliable" Toyota....?

2000 Chevrolet Full Size Conversion Van with a 5.7L V8. I had 160,000 miles on it and the transmission, engine, and brakes were getting ready to give out. Thank God for Cash For Clunkers cause I would've never gotten anywhere near $4500 for it as a trade in. That's how I got my Blue Lightning...
