What Wax without Cleaner Do U Use ??

Just thinking ahead a bit here.

I am thinking when I start getting some dings and small rock hits, I will just regularily wax the damaged area instead of trying to do paint touch up.
If it starts to fail I will do touch up, but see no need if you catch it early and maintain.

So .. What wax product without cleaners would you use for this application ??

I've recently become a convert to Griot's Best of Show Wax, it goes on easily and comes off even nicer. But I do think I'd be hesitant to depend on wax along to prevent corrosion of metal exposed by a rock chip. Touching up minor chips can be a small pain in the butt, but I'd rather restore the paint film over the sheet metal especially in a damp climate such as found in Washington State. Just my two cents, and here's a link the the Griot's wax for you.

Touch it up and learn how to sand it out. It may be a pain but it will look and last so much better. Most time a chip will not rust as it will not go throught the primer. If it does the wax has a limited life and in time it will rust.

I use the Meguires sanding stones to sand out the chip repairs and then use the Megires professional polish to rub it out and blend in the chip. Most times it is gone and you can not see it. Note metalic paints are harder to blend.

Where you have a small rock chip slightly go thru the primer and leave a dot of bare metal, that means you have to match to the clear coat fininsh as well as protect the bare metal.

I was thinking of waxing immediatly before any oxidation starts and then occasionally hit it again while keeping an eye on it as well.
I know that sounds like a long term maintanance program though.

I am concerned about how the paint repair will turn out with the new metallic Mocha paint color.

Are you guys using paint purchased thru Chevrolet parts or Duplicolor or ??

The three very minor chips in my Mocha Steel 2LT touched up just fine using paint from the dealer. We are talking very minor chips, less than 2/32 of an inch in diameter at the most, two on the bumper and one on the leading edge of the hood. The color match is just fine using the dealer supplied touch up paint, yes you can see the repairs if you're two inches away, otherwise its like they never existed.

The match mostly depends on getting the metalic mixed right. In other words shaking it up and laying in the chip right. Once you get a good build up sanding and buffing often blends it in. Most people never shake the paint enough.

Also some colors blend better too. I have gotten some to match that you can not tell it was ever chipped but some no matter how much I work it they are hard to get the metalic right based on color.

I have pretty well masted chip repair and the prime thing is take you time and do all the steps. It normally comes out well.

One other thought I had was if the exiting chip is practically unoticeable but has a bare metal dot from a sharper small rock hit .. why not just carefully fill the chip/hole with a dab of clearcoat to seal the damaged edges and bare metal dot.
Just sayin...

With a black car I don't have much choice, I carry a black automotive paint touch-up pen in the glovebox. Wax of any type would just make it look.... white! Besides, being an ex body man, I'd rather have paint in a chip, not wax....... Wax can and does cause headaches when it is time for touch-up......

Not sure if they have those yet for your "Mocha Steel" or not.

I had a truck retread hit the bumper of my black SS last January and put a series of hairline scratches in the vertical surface. Too light to sand/paint and too heavy to buff out. I tried using Kiwi black shoe polish and let it dry. I buffed it out rigorously but with light pressure to remove the excess but to leave the compound in the micro-light crevices. I then used Meguiars Carnauba on top of it and it really hid the scrapes well. Here it is summer and I even have to look for the bad memories. But this trick is limited to black.

Well ... I have given up on the wax idea but thanks to those that recommended their favorite product and I will probably try/test those waxes anyway on the overall car.

I have ordered the touch up paint from my dealer in the pencil like tube but they do not show the Moca Steel Metallic paint as a viable color. I gave them my Vin number and it came up as a different color .. like magna steel or something.
I ordered it anyway as they said if it wasn't correct they would make it right.

843 .. Isn't Boo Boo Mocha Steel ??

How did you end up when ordering paint ??

I found that it's also possible to order Clear Coat in the pencil tube and spray can as well so I ordered a tube to see if it will work.
I ran the idea of clear coat by a body guy here and he thought that under the right circumstances it would work better then using the paint.
That would be the condition I just mentioned in my last post.
A very small nick where the primer is penetrated.
Just a small dot dab in the center with maybe a second coat if required. No need to color match.
