Maybe one of the Chevy Guys can help me with this. Where did the "passive" alarm option go in the DIC. My wifes 05 cobalt ls (I have a 09 HHR) has that option where when you close the doors the alarm sets itself-no need to use the remote to turn the alarm on. You can use the DIC setting for either passive or RKE. I like that feature because in our area people wait in the big malls by us with "scanners" that pick up and record your remote code and then just use the same scanner to send a signal to get in your car with no noise/alarm. All I do when we use the cobalt is use the electric lock button and walk away and the alarm sets.

Any clues?

I don't think you need to worry about "scanners". I was told GM uses a "random roving" system that changes the coding sequence to a different value after each use. It has no established pattern.

As far as your real question....

I thought the HHR does the same as your Cobalt. Exit the car, hit the door lock switch to lock and then close the door. It is then secure. Maybe I'm wrong though. If so, I've been falsely confident for 3 years. Guess I better read my Owners Book.

Note: When using this method, it does take 30 seconds, I believe, for the system to arm itself. Success is witnessed by the illuminated lock blinking on the IP.

If I rember I read some were that it does activate the alarm after 30 seconds from hitting the lock button. I use my lock button every now and then, just assumed that it would would activate the alarm.

Actually if you press the lock button while any door is open, I believe the timer is 6 or 8 seconds from when the last door is clsed and then it will autolock the car.

I have looked after using the electric lock button-hours later-and no security light is flashing. Also open the door with the key-no alarm goes off. The HHR does not seem to have a passive system. Just don't let your insurance companies know...

just a thought if i open mine with a key or unlock it from the inside without using the fob my alarm goes off.

Arming alarm system:

2006 HHR = Fob and electric door lock switch.

2007-2010 HHR = Fob only. (Owners manual is wrong)

I think.

Delayed locking:

2006 HHR = Press door lock switch once and close all doors. Doors will lock after a few seconds and alarm is armed.

2007-2010 = Press door lock switch once and close all doors. Doors will lock after a few seconds and alarm is NOT armed.

Disclaimer:
I have not tested a 2010 HHR to verify that it works like the 2007-2009 models.

Wow! There are advantages to owning a 2006 model. The 3/36 warranty just ain't one of 'em...

Thanks ChevyMgr for clarification. Too bad Chevy didn't carry the passive feature over. How cheap could they get-it's probably just a matter of software/flash programing.
