recall for latch on storage bin in center area of dashboard

I just wanted to ask if anyone has gotten storage bin latch repaired or replaced by GM in regards to recall 08V444000? Thanks. I am presently inquiring about and getting a bit of run around. There is a recall for HHR 2008 but my vin # is not showing up on the list for repair/replacement. I am scheduled to see dealer later today and waiting to hear back from representative at GM owner center.

Yes, a lot of owners have had the item attended to - via a stick-down piece inside the bin to secure the latch better. Some had the "fix" mailed to them to install by the owner, and some had them installed by the dealer. It wasn't a major item IMO.

Your VIN won't be listed if the repair part was mailed to the registered owner. It was not a dealer involved thing.

They mailed a piece with double sided tape for the owner to apply.

Is there a piece stuck on the latch bar area? I can't find a pic of it , but it is pretty obvious, there is basically a second bar.

This is about the best I can find, it does NOT have the recall repair.

I installed mine way back when, but when I had to repair the latch, that part interfered and I took it back off. Even with the head on I had, the latch didn't open. I wondered if it was really needed.

I am the register owner I never received any notice regarding this or tape. I will check to see if there is tape in the area. The latch broke off so now I can't close it unless I tie it down.. a bit shabby looking. For safety it is necessary to tie it down so I can see clearly out window. Thanks for feedback.

That's why I had to take that part off, one side of my latch broke. I drilled and installed some decorative tag screws to re secure the latch and the "adapter" interfered. So I just took it back out.

Repaired latch never gave me any trouble.

The recall has nothing to do with the "latch" part. Just the bar. you are out of the bumper to bumper warranty, so SOL.

The registered owner at the time of the recall 9/2008.

It prevents the lid from opening in an impact, nothing to do with day-to-day. The only official repair for that is a new bin. Other handy man repairs can be done.

About $50 on ebay, Some members here are parting out their cars, check in the classified ads.https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/clas...wanted-ads-16/

Wow.

The furthest thing from a safety issue. A recall would be a shock. TSB? likely...
