$500 over invoice on a new remaining '08 a fair deal or expect better?
First offer from a dealer for an SS I inquired on was $500 over invoice, including all available incentives. It amounted to only about $800 discount off of MSRP+ destination charge, then the rebates took it down to about $500 over invoice price (relying on Kelly Blue Book for invoice price).
Should I be shooting for invoice or below including rebates or is that unreasonable?
Given the slow sales of the summer I think invoice minus rebates is fair, then give me NADA clean trade value for my '07. Then their profit is the dealer holdback amount on the SS (3% of MSRP) plus whatever margin they make when my trade sells.
The hunt is under way!

you should be able to get it down to around invoice price and then the rebates come off from there, not over invoice including the rebates already deducted
if they're doing the gm pricing it knocks about 2 grand off or so depending on the car and then the 2250 in rebates. that's how it would have been for me but i went with the 0% instead.
i think it was carts direct or edmunds or something that would tell the invoice price and then what other people are paying. that's without rebates though, the rebates are the last part of the equation since the dealer doesn't pay for those anyways, gm gives them the money for it. Get it down to near invoice (and i know all the naysayers out there about invoice price and how's it's not real and to go lower then that and all that...) and then take all of your rebates off.

I got below invoice, then the rebate came off and the GM card money came off. I also got the splash guards tossed in for free.
Wiuth the market soft as it is they should come off the invoice price.
I had several dealers try to stick to invoice price in the $24,000 range and I found a dealer thaty was willing to go lower.
You should be able to get most loaded 08's for between $21.5K-22.5K. They need to sell cars.

Is the one near you a 5-speed w/ limited slip differential? The 5-speed limited slip SS I got the initial offer from dealer on is way out in Jersey (I'm in Indiana). A lot of times the fine print when they advertise x amount of dollars off MSRP it says dealer retains rebates meaning part of the advertised discount is the rebates.

have you searched the chicago area? They have a lot more options up there since there are so many more dealers.
I'm in Indiana too and mine came from kentucky.
I know pickings are slim on the 08's especially after the 0% interest special, but they can't expect to get that much money for it. I'd tell them what you're willing to pay, without rebates, and if they don't like it, walk out. They obviously need to sell that car since the 09's are going to be rolling in. Or ask to talk to someone else who is actually willing to negotiate.
What dealer are you at?
