BTW to be fair, I think the money should be given to an independent 3rd party up front.
Hmmm.... I wonder why I am so confident?
Sigh...
I hope you know were all just havin fun here...
I'll be serious an "post" nicer now....
I would take you up on your bet, although I don't bet money. If I did i am not sure how $165 for 1 ...or even 5 horse power is worth it for me or anyone else. That is the root of the problem, $165 won't gain me anything appreciable.

Also, understand that someone has to be the first to do anything in life. If you are the first to (as i said my above post) make this work, at a reasonable price, without brutally hacking up my precious HHR SS, with a hood down dyno, larger area under the curve, and peak power somewhere in an rpm range ill see without dragging (not 5hp /trq gained at 6000rpm and 5 lost at 2500) then I will buy it. No need to bet. I'll put the first $$ on the wall of "that-guy LLC".

I like you dude you have passion, and at least your not trying to sell me "water for gas"!

Along the way I got to do a lot of cool shiz... See the Hummer and meet the designers, and the designer of the aztec...lol. Stay up on the 65th floor of that cool tower in detroit, meet design engineers, marketing types, the CEO of NAO at the time, have crazy parties through the tunnel in winsor, tour 3 assembly plants, and metal fab plants. Ive put parts on j-body cars...physically made tailgates for my s10. Drove the H1, and the h2 before it hit the streets.... race corvettes (an 12 other gm/asian cars) in the parking lot of the silverdome...a mini autocross. Yeah I appreciate all that copying and coffee fetching. I even got paid over $20 an hour $30 on sat and $40 on sunday back then for THEM TEACHING ME. No I am not special...in the COBO center with me were 2400!!!!! other interns from over 40 countries! So now you can hail 2399 other people... :)

Now what?

J/k dont get to serious, were just trying to keep you from wasting 80 bucks
Hey, I respect and love everyone. I have heard a lot of people on this board say they wish there were more aftermarket parts for our cars. So this guy , eh, that guy decides to make his own intake to try to improve his car. I respect that when people try to improve things on their own. Then he decides that he's also going to go through the trouble to try to help out the rest of the people who have the same car and want the same thing by posting his idea. I respect that a lot. He didn't have to try to help others, good on him. Then some guy who's really proud of himself (which I see from your really long post you have reason to be) decides that he doesn't want this guys help. Ok, I respect that too. I don't respect when this guy decides to try to insult this helpful poster with a bunch of crap about how dumb his idea is, followed by how much smarter he must be because his degrees and internships bla bla bla a bunch of other childish junk... I think you should show more respect to the OP and as for me, I could care less if you respect me or not because I has respect for myself

Here's an old post from a forum buddy of mine who dyno'd with the stock intake system vs. an open intake. He has an '03 PT GT. When he dyno'd the big turbo and other mods in his mod list weren't on the car yet. With all of the mods listed on his car he's easily 400+ whp.

http://ptenthusiasts.org/forum/turbo...o-results.html

Bottom line is the open intake gave him a 4 hp gain and a LOSS of 19 lbs/ft of tq.

Yes, the "black box" soaks up some heat, but you may have noticed that it's plastic, not metal. It's not quite the heat sink you seem to think. On the contrary, being plastic, it does very little thermal transfer from the ambient underhood air, and the amount of heat sunk into the plastic is certainly offset by the (relatively) cool air coming in from inside the fender.

As for the kink in the tube that feeds the air box, yes, it flows less freely than a smooth tube would. However, since there's a higher air volume in the airbox, the tube doesn't have to flow smoothly, only sufficient to keep the airbox fed enough to feed the turbo.

Oh, and I have a set of credentials as well-- decades of practical and theoretical experience in mechanical and chemical engineering, fluid dynamics, computer and systems engineering, and physics. I hold a dozen patents for inventions throughout these above fields. And I have been a member of the Sears Craftsman Club since 1992. Someone give me a cookie.

OK, as I wait for the pisssing contest to end and I put on my waders........

I bought a CAI FOR THE LOOK. It goes without saying that CGS or any open element type will suck in hot air from the engine compartment. Im experimenting with finding a way to draw in cold air without major surgery. I believe Joe R regarding the stock box's unrestrictive properties. I just think it's uglier than 3 pounds of doo doo. Trying to get a few HP and even less at the wheels is futile in my book. ITS A N/A 4 banger folks. Cruise, look good and crank up the radio.

I was just thinking about this hillarious thread.

I remembered something I thought when a lot of the things I was learning in school started to "click"

"The more you know and understand about a subject, the dummer you feel"

All my chem-e taught me is to understand how much I DON'T KNOW ABOUT ANYTHING. That is the gift and curse; education opened my eyes to MY OWN LEVEL OF IGNORANCE. Before I was to dumb to see.

Later....and check out my absurd mileage thread. Please contribute :)

I don't think the stock SS air cleaner assembly looks bad at all. I like that better than the look of an open cone filter just hanging out in the engine compartment, BUT that's just my pref and to each their own. Appearance is in the eye of the beholder.
