Just got back today after a 1,000 mile trip with the SS. Overall very pleased. I went to the Upper peninsula of Michigan to snowmobile for a day and visit some sights. With mostly highway travel, Ohio speed limit being 65 and MI 70, overall speed was between 70-80 mph, and average mpg btween all of that was about 27 mpg. I figured it out manually and by the DIC, and they were really close. I do have the Firestone Winterforce tires on it so they are 16's instead of the 18's, not sure if that makes a difference or not. Watching the instant mpg on the DIC looked like between 65-70 was the ideal speed for the best mpg. I think if we just had one more gear for cruising would make a huge difference. Running the speeds I was at, the rpm's were always really close to 3,000. The only tank I ran close to empty I got 420 miles on it. Good enough for me!
Onto the winterforce tires. I had everything from snow, slush, and black ice on the way home. Handled everything well, not much they could do with the ice though. That was slow going! Great trip, the SS did everything it was supposed to do, and now it's time to give it a bath.

You know the speed of 70 in Michigan is just a reference... If you drive 70, you could get run over.

A few weeks ago I had to make an emergency run for my business. I went 2500 miles in 56 hours. Princess performed like a champ. Average speed for the entire trip was 70. Average mileage at 70 was 35. Average mileage for entire trip was 29 and elevation went from 400 feet in Dallas to over 5500 at the continental divide and back down to 300 feet at Parker, Arizona.

Speeds was mostly 75 to 85 on the way out there and 65 to 75 on the return trip and I drove mostly straight through only stopping for gas. Tough little cars.
Not sure how well they perform on ice and snow as we do not get that here in the United States of Texas.......

Princess is not a SS, she is just a normal LS ? with the 2.2 motor. I named her Princess after someone very special to me who I miss dearly. Curly

Carful in Ohio though, police actually patrol the highways here :)

 

I also have the Winterforce Tires on my SS. Got them put on just in time, right before we got 8 inches of snow. The interstates were covered in snow, deep ruts on city streets. I haven't had any troubles getting around, best purchase so far.......that is until my GM upgrade arrives in the mail.
