Regardless, it can't hurt to put a clean filter in

Update:
Called my local old fashioned "real" auto parts, and they ordered a Wix filter (for got the part # to post here, but will when i pick up the filter and get the invoice tomorrow around this time)
Fram does not show one in their books also(they said they have recent/latest ones) and Wix is just fine with me, from what i've read here/online.

$15 for it. $20 for factory one from GM Parts direct FYI.

Funny thing is:
I gave them that part number, and they told me it was a invalid #. So they looked it up the ol fashioned way(Brand/model/engine etc) and they came up with a different number. Maybe the other number got changed(tho i would think it would show that in parts books ) or the one they said is the wrong one (Even tho she repeated all the info i gave her, she read it off what she was looking at to find the filter)

Like i said, this time tomorrow i should have the filter and have something to post here regarding all this

A new filter can't hurt, but remember at the low air flows a filter sees at cruising/light accelleration, a dirty air filter is not going to be a restriction, and not effect mileage until its so restricted that the car can't rev well, and performance would be way dropped off.
An air leak however, especially after the turbo, would drop mileage substantially, as the mass air would see extra air and add fuel. Since some guys have had leaks in the intercooler connections and air intake plumbing, I would suspect there.
Another place would be an exhaust leak before the O2 sensor, that would cause the air to be sucked in at that spot under light load, and would also trick the O2 into thinking it was lean, and therefore adding fuel.

Any challenges in trying to replace the filter?
