Break in is a timeless debate.

I drive it how I will always drive it. From day 1.

As far as oil changes... another classic debate.

I changed the oil&filter in my SS at 1,000. Will do it again at 5k. Then either every 5k or what the DIC says... we'll see.

1) Don't use FRAM if you can avoid it. They are crap. Search around here and elsewhere if you want more to back it up.

2) I would wait and actually follow the DIC. but if you want to change at 3K, it couldn't hurt anything but the pocketbook :). Mobil 1 ought to be fine as it's the factory fill. If you get something else, make sure it meets the GM spec for the HHR. I found great prices on oil that meets the spec at Wal-Mart. Mobil 1 and Quaker State synthetic were both competatively priced in convenient 5 quart containers.

I used to use Fram exclusively years ago, but have heard nothing but bad about them lately, so yeah.... you may want to consider something else.

Oil change at 3000 on a new car and then follow the DIC after that, sounds like a plan.....

Yeah what's up with that. Fram use to carry a good rep. What caused the change? Did filters get better and they never followed suit? Did their production go overseas and quality took the hit?

No need to change Mobil 1 oil or filter out until CEL tells you to.
Even then thats a little early. A lot of people change out oil and filter before the life span of both are anywhere near over. Unless you are just hankering to spend some money, then go ahead.
The engine can't tell the difference, and you won't hurt anything if you get at least 5000 miles on a oil change, unless you are racing[which you're not].

On a brand new motor, I'd change early.... break-in and all...... Even if GM says not necessary, it's still a new motor.

@ Gas Man...... Not sure what happened with Fram...... I would expect profits are more important than quality.
