2008 SS Brake Dust

After cleaning the wheel rims the front rims start looking like they have a black chrome finish after just a few hundred miles of driving around town. The brake dust builds quickly and I've never seen this much brake dust before on any vehicle I've owned in the past.

My 2006 HHR does not have this much brake dust.

I am unique?

Solutions?

Thanks.

Clean them with a brush and use a commercially available "release" material or wax the wheels with a synthetic wax. It helps a lot. Go to ceramic pads if your primary concern is looks and not performance.

Try EBC Brakes,
DP21763 EBC Greenstuff Street Sport; Disc Pads; Front; DP31763C EBC Redstuff Fast Street; Disc Pads; Front; DP41763R EBC Yellowstuff High Friction; Disc Pads; Front;

REMEMBER!!!!! Your SS has a clear coat on those wheels..........And using a brush is not to wise.......no matter how soft it is..........Oh well, go ahead and follow the advise of some of these wise-akers in here, and then you can start complaining about fine scratches on your wheels and wonder why......There's already been a lot of discussion in here on that very thing.WW

The brake pads used on the SS are more of a high performance composition and will be prone to producing some brake dust.....that's just the way it is with that material.

Personally, I'll clean the wheels routinely, I don't want to compromise the performance of the system.

Sorry Wolfie I should have been a little more specific on the brush. There are several good short bristle horse hairs out there specifically for scrubbing, and I think it is Griots Garage that has a long soft tire brush to use just for "dusting" away the brake dust.

Ha, you haven't seen brake dust until you have seen an Audi after even 100 miles. The brake dust on the SS is minimal compared to an Audi.

just go with a low dust pad... avoid the ebc pads at all cost.. the dust production is decreased but they squeal no matter what solution u try....

call these guys
http://www.zeckhausen.com/

they have recommended pads for all my cars now and they know their stuff , for the hhrss we went with the centric posi quiet pads and they have been minimal or no dust and great performance
