5 Speed Pull handle

I noticed on my test drive that I had to the release to go into 5th gear as
well as reverse. Plus reverse was very difficult to engage. Is the gearbox
similar to the ones in the Saab 9-3?

Second time I have seen that comment, but something is not right, because it should not require a lift to go to fifth (of course). Reverse on any manual, especially in cold weather can take some fiddling sometimes, usually if you shift to another forward gear and then reverse, it helps to align teeth.

The car was warmed up and would not go into 5th gear unless the the release under the knob was pulled up and also it still was very difficult to put in reverse. The dealer service manager agreed that this was not normal (for reverse) and will look into it. The car is for my wife who has driven manuals all
her life and could not put in reverse.

You have to lift the handle to put it in reverse. You DO NOT need to lift the handle to go into 5th gear. The transmissions in these things seem to be a little stiff at first. After 1200 miles on mine it has loosened up nicely.

When I first got my SS a few days ago I thought you had to actually lift up on the knob to put it in reverse. That is not the case. Its actually a piece right below the knob that you can pull up with 2 fingers pretty easily.. then you pull it down into reverse. I've never had to pull that thing up to put it in 5th gear though. 5th gear is pretty stiff but its probably because I only use it about twice a day and I've only got about 160 miles on it so far.

C2Vette thatwas me who said about having to lift the knob to go into 5th gear and i got 1711 miles now and still have to lift to go into 5th and its very difficult to get into 5th under power i haveto back off the throttle to get into 5th not meaning i got it floored but i have to it seems lift my foot off the gas and let it slow down some to go into 5th gear...
