At 8K miles.....Turbo bearings shot
Yep....was still waiting for the bypass valve for the past 4 weeks (typical surging at times when accelerating at hwy speeds, nothing major), now the Turbo bearings are shot. Since the bypass is internal to the SS turbo, maybe this will speed up delivery!
Sigh....these Enterprise stock loaner cobalts are boring to me......at least they put me in a 2 dr last time...this one is the sedan version.

that sucks!!!! if you are needing a new turbo you may be in for a long wait. turbos are taking months to get in.
good luck and hope you get your ride back soon

That would be my fear.......the bypass valve was over 4 weeks waiting...and still no sign of the part.
More importantly, this was a hwy queen, so I fear for those who are actually 'driving like they stole it'.
Love the mpg and zip the HHR has with a decent cargo capacity, but alas, my rundown is as follows so far:
- auto shifter indicator
- loose intake/intercooler clamps
- cold start/stiff brake issue: (aux. pump install, 3 days)
- bad battery (1/2 day diagnosis had to be replaced)
- surging issue: bypass valve on order (1/2 day diagnosis)
- air bag light (TSB)
- bad turbo bearings (currently at dealer's)

That is crappy, but mine just went 36K before the bearing jumped ship.
It took almost 3 weeks to get it back...
(here is my thread about it)

Good Luck Man!

well the brake fix is pretty manditory on automatics, the shift indicator i have heard of as well...the clamps sometimes come loose...the turbo surging not so common. but don't fear that it can't take abuse. just like any vehicle sometimes someone gets a bad one. myself and plenty other forum members drive it like they stole it and have had no problems. the only things i worry about are tires and the clutch
sorry for your misfortune. i would be pissed so i understand where you are coming from. hope they get it fixed and you get back to having fun...and power windows

not completely accurate hyperv6...continual surging will cause the bearings to fail especially with our conventional bearings. the air forced back in the turbine tries to reverse the spin of the propeller....you have a propeller on a shaft separated by a bearing that is spinning one direction at 10k rpm and you are block the flow of air that it is moving suddenly...causing surge...the air has nowhere to go and will drastically and dramatically slow the propeller's movement what effect do you think that has on the bearing? it is detremental
