I have just looked on several Audi/VW supplier sites and they have the BW K04 Turbo, unfortunately I don't know if GM will order from them.

Also how is driving the car as it was made to be driven a rough life? Let the turbo warm up/cool down (after hard driving), and respect the car and it will be fine. The turbo is made to be used, the SS is made to be driven, so drive it! I don't hammer mine, but I drive it and to be honest, whenever I sell it will probably be one of the cleanest and nicest on the market in my greater area.
X3!!
I DRIVE mine but I don't beat on it. Almost 7K and no issues except the rims leaking air. I WILL get the extended warrenty if I plan to keep her, though. Too many things I've read about on this thread...

15K and going strong. No issues here.

Problems are what warranties are for.

No problems with mine 9k on the clock and had the stage kit since 5k. I drive it like its ment to be driven (fast lol) but i let the car warm up fully and i wait like 2 minutes every time before i turn it off. Take care of the car and it will take care of you. Did you ever let the car cool off after driving it?? If not then you had a nice oil biuld up in the turbo and it went BOOM.. Sorry to hear that though

Sounds like you regret not getting one. I have 8000 miles on mine and never had a problem. Every type of vehicle has issues. There is also the issue that there aren't very many HHR SS's out there and a lot of people are on here. The only thing thats wrong with the HHR SS is that it's FWD.

I don't think my driving style was a factor. I drive a 45 mile one-way commute every day at 70 mph in rural area. I will usually have at least one 60 to 100+ mph spurt in there somewhere (hate mustangs). On each end of the trip, I will have at least 10 minutes of 30mph at less than 2000 rpm. This should be sufficient cool down time for a water cooled turbo.

Where I'm having second thoughts is going against everything I have practiced for the last 45 years of driving by trusting the DIC to tell me when to change oil. In retrospect, oil that is ok for the engine at 5000+ miles may not be ok for the turbo. I'll probably go back to my old school habits. Thoughts????

I monitored this site for over 5 months, deciding which trim to purchase. I seen members praise as well as complain about each of them. Other sites that I am a member have the same general issues with their vehicles. Follow the maintenance schedule, that's all that you can do. Fate may be good or bad to you.

In regard to my choice:

I was honestly considering either THIS

Or THAT

We looked at both on the same day. I liked the luxury of the LT (it had heated leather seats), but I ended up choosing the SS. I told my wife that if I didn't go for the SS, I'd regret it throughout the life of the car. Now that I am driving the SS (and love driving it), I'm sure glad that I chose "one of those".

The DIC is set to include the turbo...otherwise GM would have never used it,,or recommended its use to the average driver out there , especially those that don't even know where to buy oil let alone know where its supposed to go.....new oils new technology...time to graduate from the old school techniques..if the rest of the world thought this way we'd still be flying wooden airplanes and cooking on coal.
