Hello,
‘I have the GMTU tune and want to try others But I’d like to keep my stock tune because of the safe guards.
So can I backup my stock tune to put back in later?
it took the dealer 3.5 days to get the file the 1st time. Don’t want to go threw that again.
thx
Go on eBay and look for guys selling used ECMs that they pre program for your VIN. I know 2.2L cost about $100, my quick search for SS says more l;ike $200-262. You could probably go to the GM store and have them program a used one for you. Used seems to be under $100.
The delay you had seems to have been the authorization process.
If you have a tuner do a tune (Almost sounds musical) he will need to suck out your existing tune and modify and reload. Have them save a copy of the tune they suck out, which is generally standard operating procedure.

Ok Im there :) I bought a used ECM and TCM with the exact PROM code and part numbers. I marked them for the swap. Dealer wants $240 to flash both.
I'm just trying to decided which route to go...........

However, I wonder if the tune for your VIN is now the GMTU
I will find out tomorrow....going to the dealer to re-flash old parts. Will bring auth code and serial number of the GMTU. I will wait 2 hours max and if not done I will take the courtesy shuttle home.
Ok, Heres what happened:
I go to the dealer at 8am he tells me the night before no problem. But when I get there the mechanic says he wont do it. He said it was to much of a problem for him when he did my GMTU and doesn't want to go threw that again?
So I call another Chevy dealer 40 miles away...same story....just bring it in....When I get there the service manager starts choking and says "NO WAY A TURBO! I wont mess with that...and It will be at least 6-7 hours to program both ECM and TCM."
