If I were her parents, I would rather have an actual estimate from a shop. If that estimate is more than the $950, show them the estimate, but then tell them you can do it less, and you can show them the price of parts if you want. But if I were her parents and you just told me how much you would fix it for, I might think you were milking me, wanting more money than it would cost....
Personally I would take it to a reputable body shop and let them give you a thurough estimate and submit that to her parents! Like others have said you never know whats hidden and would hate to come up short on your beliefs of the total damage!

Batman,
I had the same thing happen to me a few years back, hit by a lady driver while I stopped at a red light before turning right. When we pulled over, she asked "why did you stop?" !
Anyway, I did the same thing you did as the damage was mainly cosmetic, or so I thought. I took it to the dealer and got an estimate ($1400). I dropped a copy of the estimate off at their house on the way home from work. The husband called me and indicated that the estimate was too high and changed their mind about going outside of the insurance company, so the claim went in. The body shop showed me other damage that was not visable. Check down where your spare tire is and make sure that no seams have been ripped open. My car (a Honda Civic) had the spare mounted in a similar manner as the SS is. The other thing I was nervous about not reporting it (if it had gone that way) was if the other party suddenly decided to sue me for something and I had not reported it to my insurance company. Hope it all works out for you - quickly.

I would file a police report, If it's not too late. Just in case you need it..
Not to sound ruthless, just to protect your situation..
Sometimes folks are all ready verbally to pay till they see the numbers & then, good bye...
Nice to be nice, but worse to get screwed..
A police report may be necessary for a insurance claim..... depends on where you live and your insurance. There's a lot of scams going the other way..... insurance claims when there's not really been an accident.
IF it's not to late a police report might be a good idea for your own protection.....

Most insurance companies want a police report. When my wife backed into her Honda with the back-end of a U-Haul Truck, our insurance wanted a police report even though she hit her own car. The police in Tallahassee are always over committed, so we just picked one up from the police department and had a desk seargnet look the car over, and give a witness sig. Insurance was happy, eventhough I am fixing the car--busted plastic bumper cover(no structural, or mounting damage) and a small crease in the trunk lid. To us it made more sense to turn in the paperwork but not file a claim..... Deductible+ rate increase for our own mistake didn't make much sense. So I am fixing it.
