It doesn't actually sound like a problem with the transmission itself, but the clutch assembly. I wonder if their supplier sent them a bad batch of clutches. Any transmission that suffers a catastrophic failure of a clutch is subject to failure of the bellhousing and case--that's why NHRA and NASCAR mandate scattershields.

BTW, the transmission is NOT made by Saab. It is a similar design to the Saab-manufactured F35 and is manufactured by FGP Getrag in Germany.

Yikes. I thought Chevy claimed they did something like 600 passes at the dragstrip while using launch control and no lift shifting during their testing. It sure as heck doesn't sound like it if there are this many clutch failures. This is disconcerting. Especially with these failures occurring on stock cars!!!

My last turbo-4 was a SRT-4 Neon. That thing was bulletproof.

Clipboard malfunction, but still somehow both poignant and funny.

Hope GM doesn't think can they list no-lift shifting as abuse. If it's unsafe to the mechanical components they should have never employed it on the car. Wearing the clutch is one thing, a trans failure is another. That whole idea make anyone else nervous?

I came very close to choosing the 5 speed after test driving one. My wife said no way was she driving the 5 speed, so I got the auto. I wonder if she was on to something. I feel for you guys with the bad clutch/transmissions. No way should something this catastrophic be happening if they tested it correctly.

You have to keep in mind that they've sold more than two cars with this transmission and not all of them are failing left and right. My bet is that something was not assembled correctly when the engine and transmission were mated or that the clutches as supplied are bad.
