Canadian SS Availability

At least two of us, North of the Border (LongHornSS and myself) have accepted but are disappointed with the absence of Reconfigurable Performance Display (UAF) option for the Canadian cars. The real aggravation for us however is our inability to even order the car yet. Seems they have not set-up the production for the Canadian models and the current projection for this is (possibly) the end of the month (August).

Thought a separate thread to track this, even if it is of interest only for us two, would be appropriate. Seeing a 'new' dealer tomorrow to, again commence my order process.

not sure if you can import one in from the US but its worth a shot to try. Call Paddock Chev Grand Island and ask. I think they did stop letting new in because of the price difference even though the dollar was equal

Yes I am actually researching that. US Dealerships are not suppose to sell to Canadians, but if you get a little further from the border, I'm told a deal can be arranged. Importing takes some administration work, not difficult but I am hearing rumours about warranty issues for Canadians driving US vehicles. Specifically dealership (GM Canada) refusing to honour any warranty. According to a friend of mine who is a Lawyer, they can do that. That said, with the difference in the prices, a person could get a lot of work done, paying for it and still be ahead of the game.

Placed my order today with the dealer who tell me they can only place their orders on the Factory, every two weeks. Good news is that this Thursday is one of their windows for doing it.

They are telling me 7 to 8 weeks for delivery (maybe 6). However they haven't yet tried to place the order themselves and I suspect they will be coming back to me to tell me that production isn't a "go" yet and that they are unable to order the vehicle. Waiting patiently.

Hi...I'm new to the board. Are you referring to order a 2009 SS? I'm looking to get a SS in the February timeframe...I haven't talked to my salesman yet, but I'm trying to figure out how far in advance to order it.

I was told I Could order the car at any point and just tell the dealer "I want this car in February," and they GM would sequence the car in for the appropriate time.

If however you are just looking to order it with a little less buffer than ordering this summer for a February delivery, the order-build-delivery times I've been quoted are (under normal circumstances):
- 7 to 8 weeks (current dealership)
- 8 to 10 weeks (previous dealer - probably the most accurate)
- 8 to 12 weeks (general enquiry - longer due to new model year)

Presently the time frames are extended as the Canadian 09 models are not yet in production. Once that starts-up (end of this month?) the above time frames should be realistic. If you order it with a 3 to 4 months lead time as LongSSHHR says, you should be fine.

Note - all dealers wanted a little extra as a down payment $2 to $3k because the vehicle is a little unique. Then again I'm looking for a Panel, which is a little less popular.

Thanks guys...I've gotta bring my truck in for service in a couple weeks. I'll talk to my salesman then.

I haven't 100% decided on getting an HHR yet...but I'm about 95% sure. It does look to be a pretty exciting vehicle with plenty of potential.

Don't take one for a test drive or you'll want to take it home that day.
