I had the exact same thing on my 2001 S10 pickup. The problem with the S10 was the carpet didn't fit tight to the floorboard so as you stepped on the clutch the side of my shoe wore through the carpet. GM replaced it but the new carpet fit even worst and the dealer said that all of them were like that and it just wore through again.

GM has had this issue for years and hasn't figured out that they needed to do something about it.

Well they are right in what caused the wear but shouldn't the crap last longer than 6,200 miles! Might want another dealerships opinion on that! Mine has a wear spot just behind the hook for the mat so I will be checking with the dealership come monday! We had a Colorado with "Shedding" mats (premiums) and they replaced them twice before the 36,000 mile mark!

I bought a set of PREMIUM FLOOR MATS. They are much more substantial than the stock ones and I expect they will last a very long time.

Like I stated the Nifty Products Carpeted floor liners will solve this problem and few people will know they are even there since they are color matched and material matched.

They are better than floor matts and if you want you can still run matts on them like normal.

Picture is sample photo not HHR model.

THey will protect the carpet, cover the carpet if you already have a hole. They will not interfear with the pedals. Hand they make cleaning out the vehicle a breeze. Thew rubber liner on them will keep you floor dry if you deal with snow.

They make them for the front, rear and cargo for the HHR in all interior colors.

Pop these babys in and no more wear no more tear and still have stock carpeting. Problem solved.
