Clicking noise from engine, after turned off and parked?
Have noticed a funny noise after:
- vehicle parked
- engine turned off
Once I get out of the vehicle and close the door, I hear a fairly loud clicking noise... it comes from the engine bay area.
Goes "click-clack"... just once. "Clicking" is probably a bad description. Can't think of a better word though.
It's as if some switch or valve or something is returning to a home position.
It's quite noisy.
Has anyone heard this noise when they get out of their vehicle???

Could be one, or a combination, of many things. Heat shields expanding and contracting,......relays........injectors...etc.
Use the search function in the title bar and insert "clicking noise". Many, many threads will come up. Your description is very general and could be anything. See if any of the existing threads descibe your experience.

I also have the noise(s) you are describing, seems to come from underneath the SS, around the cat area, at least one of the noise(s). Nothing to worry about, consider it normal, just the nature of the beast......
No, the noise I'm talking about is not exhaust / cat related. It is not similar to what you would hear from heat-related expansion and contraction of any components.
This is a very deliberate and repeatable noise... like the closing of a specific switch or some kind of solenoid actuation. If it's electrical (like a relay), it sure seems loud in comparison to what I'm used to.
Perhaps a better way to describe it is something similar to the noise you hear from the door latch, when you lock the doors. "chick-chick"
However, the noise is from the engine compartment.
It's not really a complaint... I'm just curious as to what it may be :)
I need to pay more attention and try to understand the sequence of events just prior to the noise.

Yes, I have heard this too. I have always meant to pop the hood and then shut it off and get out to see where it is coming from, but I always forget. It clicks or snaps a couple of times and then goes silent. I think it is a relay or switch of some kind when the system is shutting down. My Eldorado with the Northstar engine made a very similar noise when it was shut off.
