Question Considering an HHR 5 spd.

Specifically to replace my Million Kilometer (620,000 mi.) turbo Volvo. The Turbo SS with 5 spd. intrigues me but non turbos would likely be OK. Interested in doing my own maintenance so curious about special tools needed, etc. Any specific issues that require GM dealers only? Any years to avoid?
Thanks!

Welcome to the site.

The HHR SS is a specialty car. Some of the engine and modern computer electronics can be a little tricky for the average owner to do his/her own work on.
The SS was only made for 3 years, 08-10. They are all pretty much the same in those years depending on a few option choices. The 08's had a few small bugs and a porous block issue that popped up on a few of those early ones.

Now. The SS is considered a performance model. Lot's of HP and handles very well with the FE5 sport suspension. The drawback is, it has a pretty rough ride compared to the regular HHR.

If you're looking for a performance aspect car, then the SS would be the choice.
If not. then I would suggest one of the regular HHR models.

edit: Fwiw. The SS and regular HHR's have different 5 speeds. The SS also has a short throw shifter.

find the HHR SS and it will let you know ... it's the one!! I would suggest avoid the 2008 unless the engine block has been changed they seemed to have a cracking issue, I like the 2010 as they have a few more gadgets , there are some listed on the site for sale peruse the search window and have a look!!
