My 2010 SS engine cooling fan stayed on today after shutdown for the first time ever. Coolant level was fine. The fan did shut off after several minutes whew!!!---more than five minutes but probably less than ten. I don't know for sure how many minutes because I left it parked on the street in the hot sun, went into my friend's house, and came out to check about 20 minutes later---fan had turned off. Again, whew!!! Note: this was a very, very hot day, outside temp 98, freeway driving non-stop with the A/C on from Torrance to Lake Elsinore---about an hour and fifteen minutes. Coolant temp was never more than 205 degrees. Just in case the fan keeps running more than 15 minutes after shutting off the engine, and you fear a dead battery will be the result, according to the owners manual fuse #7 in the engine compartment fuse block supplies power to the SS cooling fan.

You srtill have some sort of overheating problem then or since its an SS the module might be bad. Also, In my 2.4 in florida where its been high 90's with heat index in the 100's the car always cools right down to 194 on the highway and gradually makes its way down to 190 if I dont have to stop. If its getting to 205 while coasting you have a problem.

205 is not unusual for an SS in traffic on a hot day. Or up steep grade in the heat, with AC on.

In addition to my HHR SS, I also have a 2004 Corvette which I bought new. It has always run around 210-220 degrees in traffic on hot days with the AC on and has done that since it was new. I asked the dealer about that on its first check-up and he said that was completely normal.

I would guess a Corvette has a 195F t-stat.

2004 Corvette would have a 187 degree thermostat.
