There is supposed to be some oil residue getting past the top seal, if you leave it long enough it may drip down the side of the shock. If there was no oil to lube the shaft, the seals would wear very quickly. I personally dont replace leaking struts unless they fail the simple bounce test.

 

KYB is a step down from the stock SS struts...they are FE3..SS is FE5
