Looks to me like the difference is in the tripot not the shaft.

Can we get some measurements there? And congratulations on the grandchild, Dave! that makes it appear that the measurements look different. The machining on the OEM piece is beautiful, vs the cheap & quick machining done on the 'knock-off' GM8206 piece. Thanks, she's beautiful, funny, & growing up too quick.... |
Has anyone tried the GM8048
It is 3/4" shorter than the GM8206, (looking at the compressed specs?), & should be a perfect fit for our HHR SS...:twothumbs: GM8048 https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/p...10039=Show+All GM8206 https://www.oreillyauto.com/detail/p...alibu?q=gm8206 I just can't believe the 100s of different part numbers out there for GM axles, sometimes with more than one number fitting the same vehicle/engine/transmission??? How can that be??? I'm going to return the GM8206 & find a different brand of GM8048 to see if it is a good fit for our HHR SS...:twothumbs: |

The GM parts book is wrong on some other parts, why not this one.
The guy at Moog said that he has removed the 12" sway bar link from their catalog for the HHR. GM still lists it, even though it was never installed at the factory. GM also lists the wrong ball joint for the SS. |

There are no other part numbers in the GM lineup that will fit the SS HHR Automatic trans as far as cv axles go.
My wife drives a 2004 Malibu Maxx The brake rotors & wheel hubs are the same as the HHR SS, as I have used my HHR SS rotors/wheel hubs, on her car. This morning I crawled under the Maxx to check out the CV axle shaft & it looks exactly like the new HHR SS shaft that I have. It even has the same inner boot part number. The HHR SS automatic shafts are 21 3/8", under compression. The 2004 automatic Malibu Maxx shafts are 21", under compression. The Maxx shaft is 3/8" shorter. The GM8206, from the 2005-2010 Malibu, at 21 3/4" is 3/8" longer than the HHR SS shaft, when checked under compression. So, one is 3/8" shorter, & one is 3/8" longer..:D Which is better??? longer, or shorter... The GM part# = 22692204 for the 3/8" shorter, & at most online GM dealers they sell for $200 The AC Delco part# on Rock Auto is 363886, $176.79 Both of these are available now, but may soon be gone also....:skull1: The 3/8" longer part# 10379129, from the 2005-2010 Malibu will probaby be around for awhile, & also sells for over $300 at most online dealers. Only use these 2 OEM part numbers ,as they are the best...:twothumbs: Non OEM CV axle shaft assemblys are crap...:skull1: Hay, you can have my new HHR SS shaft for $200 + shipping, package weight = 17lb , if you need this, to send to the Driveshaft Shop...:twothumbs: Let me know... |

You will be the first to know, David...I really appreciate you selling me this axle! Everything is lined up with the Driveshaft Shop and I plan to forward it to them as soon as I receive it from you. This option is definitely going to help a lot of us out!
