A good night of drag racing

I haven't drag raced a car since the mid 90's. Took the SS to the "run what you brung" street races here in Houston. Got by butt kicked by a few turbo'd ricers but had a blast. I expected to get beat on since it is bone stock but I wanted to get a good base line before I start adding bolt on's. It was pretty consistant with an average of 9.78/73.05 mph over 4 runs. That is in Competative mode with traction control off. Launch control? Who programmed that embarassment into our cars. It fell on its face off the line with in on. I could have crawled under the seat in shame after it allowed me to creep away from the tree. I am gutting the 2nd CAT. tomorrow and will get run it again to get an average with that mod. i plan to do that after every modification to see what kind of impact each has. Stay tuned!

Comp mode is useless without slicks. Try esc off and just watch the lead in your foot. With very limited bolt-ons, good technique, and low tire pressure you should easily shave a second off that. With just my sig mods I'm at .8.68. Best I could muster last night was a 8.79. Track wasn't prepped well at all.

2005 has awesome success with a gutted cat, the back pressure helps with low end torque but suffers a little at the top. Catless has the opposite effect. More HP at the top with a little less torque. He runs slicks so the added pressure halps with his 60'. I run street tires and catless so that helps me at the far end. No right or wrong, mods all depend on you, your driving style, etc. no two cars make the same power the same way.

9.56 @77mph is what I did last year. All I had then was superchips.....

This year I'll have trifecta(might not change much) and intercooler piping. I've also never lowered my tire psi below 24. So under 20 will be new

2nd CAT is gone now. I can't say I feel anything differnet at this point. Looking forward to Friday night. FYI, I spent $38 at the dealership special ordering gaskets. When I dropped the downpipe the gaskets didn't need to be replaced. They are both metal so I would think you would seldom find them bad.

You said you were bone stock? IIRC, that means you have a learn down feature so the motor will only make stock power. That will go away with the GMTU or any aftermarket tune. Also be aware that the stock tune is very touchy with what it likes and doesn't like. Even changing the air filter causes problems for some folks but not all.

Trifecta tune and new MAP sensors should be in today. I'm hoping to get them installed in time to make it back to the track tomorrow and see how much it improves.

Are you talking about the budget tune? I got mine for $200 from Trifecta. You are charging $315 unless you don't consider your tune a budget tune.
