HHR/SS fastest in its class Nurburgring
“The HHR SS offers drivers a totally integrated performance driving experience,” said John Heinricy, GM Performance Division executive. “It was developed on some of the most challenging tracks in North America and Europe, and has been tuned to deliver confident handling and road manners, while also maintaining overall ride comfort.”
As with other GM Performance Division-developed vehicles, the HHR SS was validated on Germany’s famed Nürburgring racing circuit, where it set a new lap record of 8:43.52 minutes for its class, besting the previous record of 8:54.38 held by the Opel Zafira OPC. “It’s not often that you see a vehicle like the HHR at Nürburgring – and you certainly don’t see one lapping the track as quickly,” said Heinricy. “Frankly, the HHR SS is going to surprise a lot of enthusiasts with its improved control and feel on both the street and the track.” |
Old news for most of us but if you look on youtube they have a edited video of John making the lap in the HHR, it is worth watching.
He also drove the Cobalt SS with the same drivetrain to a 8:24 and a CTSV to 7:59. Also you might want to check out the ZR1 doing 7:26 There are video's for all of them most are full laps. The video's are fun to watch and listen to when the cars get airborne a few times. At the green hell anything under 9 min is respectable. |
I'd love to see what a pro driver intimately familiar with Nurburgring could pull off. It takes years to master that track.

Is this really something to fight over?
GM claimed it was the fastest in it's class and nothing more or less. John Heinrency is one of the best drivers at the ring and he gave the SS some respect. We should be happy with this time and the Cobalt SS with it's even better time with the same engine and suspension. The Cobalt was entering M series times. |
