HHR SS Story
If you don't mind me asking, I was just wondering...is your inability to use your right arm related to that drunk driver hitting you? Pretty cool that it was a showroom model...my wife saw a Victory Red 2LT HHR on the showroom floor, fully loaded, and asked if I would rather have that (she liked the luxury)...it was really sharp, but I had to have my SS.

Actually that's due to my being a giant baby (umm, 23" and 11lbs), being stillborn, and having a stand in doc deliver me naturally vs via C-section as my mom's original Dr intended. Fun!
Funny fact about the SS, I pulled it off the showroon floor w/ 12 miles on it. The previous car I had was pulled off the showroom floor w/ 11 miles on it. Coincidence?

Did you actually drive the SS off the showroom floor yourself? I find something oddly cool about that. I remember as I was wrapping up the final paperwork for my SS, my wife saw the 2LT, and was sitting in it for several minutes. She was not a big fan of the HHRs to begin with, but this one seemed to be singing to her for whatever the reason. She liked the fact that it was automatic, had leather seats, and the general look of it (running boards, pinstripe, roof rails).
Finally, as I was waiting for my salesman to come back with some more paperwork, I asked her, "What are you doing?" She asked, "Are you sure you don't like this one? This one's REAAAAAAAAALLY nice!" I replied, "I know hon, it is, just not exactly what I'm looking for." She wasn't mad or anything, but she did really like that 2LT...and I remember thinking, would I actually drive that off the floor myself if I buy this?
My story also appears elsewhere on this forum, but I'll gladly repeat it:
I didn't need a new vehicle. My '06 Honda Element was purring along with 114,000 miles, and I was looking forward to another 114,000.
A friend drove up one day with an HHR LT. It was the first time I'd ever seen one in person. I was impressed by its retro-good looks, and asked if I could take a look inside.
It was a little cramped, but I found the driver's seat comfortable. There looked to be enough room (with the seats folded down) for all my "stuff."
I went online, and gasped when I saw that Chevy made an SS version. I did some more checking, and discovered that this was a real hot rod.
Long story short (oops... too late), I ordered my HHR SS with the AA5 (blank quarter window), performance package, and Premium Stereo on 12/31/08. I picked it up on 4/30/09, and have enjoyed it each and every day since then.
I've rolled up more than 71,000 miles, and have had only one or two minor glitches that were addressed and repaired by the best damned Chevy Service Department on the planet.
Oh. I still have the Honda Element. I tell people I'm keeping it "just in case." My son's car has died so, as soon as the weather improves, we're going to get the old Honda fired up, registered, and back on the road.
But I'll still be enjoying my HHR SS.
It's a shame Chevy decided to end production of this gem. I will hate to see it go when I buy my next work vehicle (which will probably be a VW Jetta Sportwagen TDI).
That's my story.

Well my story is pretty sad but it has a happy ending. For my 16th bday my parents got me a 2006 HHR 2LT fully loaded, daytona blue it was everything i had wanted in my first car, but me being the young unexpierianced driver i was at the time lost control taking it through a field. The car would then be declared totaled a few days later and i was crushed. But like everyone else when they wreck a car they begin to look for a new one. I knew i still wanted an hhr but they had changed the blue to that purple blue so i knew i didnt want that. and then one day my dealer called my dad saying ive got the perfect car for you son(me) so we went up there and we saw a brand new 2008 hhr ss. It was love at first sight. The turbo helped me forget about the old one haha. so theres my story.

My first two cars were a 1978 Monte Carlo, and a 1976 Cutlass Supreme...my parents, rightly so, made me pitch in for both. They had rust and were eyesores. They wouldn't have dreamt of helping me to buy something better, and in hindsight I can fully understand why. I couldn't afford my first brand-new car until I was 28 (a 1998 New Beetle), and I was so excited to have it that I took meticulous care of it, and have done the same with every new car I've purchased since.
I just don't see how a 16-year-old can appreciate something like a new (or very nice used) car, appreciate the work and $$$ that goes into getting it. I know I sure didn't. Honestly, if you had saved up the green to pay for that HHR yourself, would you have been so quick to take it onto a field? And in a sad way you wound up getting REWARDED for that, with an even better ride.
Not trying to paint all teenagers with the same brush here...this is just something I feel strongly about. Starting off with a P.O.S. (or, in some cases, several P.O.S) makes you appreciate your first newer car that much more when you finally get it.
They did make us a good deal on the Cobalt but the 2LT HHR I traded in was quite upside down so I got hit hard on mine. Didn't matter though, I got 0% on it and I plan on keeping her til she dies so it's all good.
Sorry for the delay... no my wife never considered an SS model on the Cobalt. She was upgrading from a 1998 Saturn LS1 so believe me, this 2008 LT model Cobalt was luxury for her and all she needed.
