It'll whine like a supercharger and you'll know somethings bad. I blew my seals last October. i put a big turbo and fuelling cams in it instead of replacing it lmao

I heard what sounded like power steering belt squeal and then no boost. 57,000 miles on a 2010. Not a happy camper ATM. And no Candi module so my Tech2 is useless.

Sheesh...seems we're having a spout of bad turbos. Especially on cars with low miles. No Bueno indeed

My observation: There are a lot of low mileage turbo failures lately, most of the posters have sig lines like "If it's not Boosted, what's the point?" or screen names like that.

Not implying anything, just an observation.

Hmm, like my turbo days of yesteryear!! My trusty Chrysler LeBaron 2.2 Turbo spewed its impeller and bearings at 47,000 miles , then again at 89,000 miles.
I always followed the owners manual about cool down and proper oil changes, ran the correct fuel, I just think that a turbo isn't all that dependable for a DD .

It was over boosting and throwing codes for a while. Now if I accelerate to fast it makes a horrible noise and the boost drops.

Got2boostit2 and wagoneer check out this thread https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/ss-s...estions-55719/

Read my post #31 and see if that sounds like your situation. My turbo was not bad, just needed a replacement boost control solenoid. When I first started looking at my turbo, I too, thought it might be going out, there was oil at the mouth of the turbo, but it turned out to be from the PCV system, not the turbo.

Now that I've replaced the boost control solenoid, the overboost problem and screech are gone. I've also shell blasted my intake valves https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/how-...lves-ss-56184/ and installed oil catch can(s) https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/2-0l...tch-can-54350/ which fixed the oil problem from the PCV system.

Good leads RJ. I'm sure as time goes on we will see more and more solenoid failures.

RJ, thanks for the tips. I finally bought a Candi module and ran diagnostics, could not get the boost control solenoid to click. I'll search and order one as that was my hope versus the turbo being bad (although I'd like to upgrade).

Don is saying just an observation, nothing more!
