HHR SS vs G8
HHR SS vs G8
A friend of mine is considering a new ride and had narrowed down to a few choices. He has a small baby and a better-half of course, but isn't quite sure which way to go. I have heard great things about the G8 and while I like my HHR very much, it is a narrow and somewhat cramped feeling car. Just wondering if any of you have also thought of this comparison, or have any 1st hand knowledge on the G8s?
What models of both cars is he looking at? Will the HHR be an SS or an LS/LT? Is the G8 the V6 or the GT? After having both it would definately be a hard choice. The SS is a great little car that inst slow by any means, still gets great gas mileage (21 city - 32 highway) and you can carry alot of things in it. The G8 GT is a 4dr car with 361HP and easily over 400 with some minor mods and a tune. But even with out it, all stock is a beast. The G8 has twice as much more room both in the front and back seats than the HHR and the trunk can easily fit 2-3 people back there. Our HHR stickered for 25.5 and we got it for 21. The G8 stickered for 35.8 and we got it for 25. If I had to choose between the two again and only pick one and could get the same deals I would definately go with the G8. But if I had to pay sticker I would stick to the SS. We dont have any little ones but I would say the G8 would def be easier to get car seats, etc in and out of the back seats. The G8 just turned over 1200 miles and so far we are getting 16 MPG city and 27-29 Highway. Both are great cars.....

Comes down what do you want?
The G8 is a great sedan and a great buy.
The HHR is a wagon and gets better mileage.
The G8 right now is a better as they have lowered the prices much.
Also be away Pontiac may die in the next 5 years so it could be a orphan car soon.
I love the G8 but the wife drives sedans. If I was buying for her it would have been a G8 for me I was replacing a truck with the anticipation of higher gas in the future so it was a SS for me.

When Oldsmobile died ALL GM dealerships were allowed to perform warranty repairs. It will be the same with Pontiac. We still do catalytic converters from time to time on an Olds. Most are way past warranty now though.
I wanted a G8 as well but was only going to go for the GT, and with the sticker being over $30k starting, I had to go with the HHR SS instead. I am not disappointed with what I have, but I feel would have been happier with the G8 GT.
People want the latest and greatest not the dead and dying.
I have two Pontiacs now so I will hate to see anything bad happen but I also know what the reality is. The two champions for Pontiac were Rick Wagoner and Bob Lutz. One is gone and the other is leaving. Both fought the GM board over Pontiac and pretty much never could get what they wanted to rebuild the division. The GM Board is just looking to let the lines play out and call it a niche division till then to try to keep a good spin on this.
The Bottom line GM has no real plans for Pontiac at this time and if we do not see any soon they will fade away.
As it is the only two cars Lutz was able to create for Pontiac are the only two worth a crap and have any real performance. THe Solstice and G8 are all that is right with the division.
I am driving a HHR SS now because Pontiac sold nothing that had this kind of performance nor hauling or MPG.
I would love to replace my GTP with a G8 but I hate to think about the loss of resale value if and when Pontiac closes.
Olds closing did not help the resale price of Achieva's and Aurora's. On the other hand it could make buying a G8 even more affordable.
