HHR SS won’t go into reverse
So I just bought a 2008 HHR SS with the f35 transmission. The guy said it only went into reverse if it rolls back slightly, and I tried to do it with car on off and won’t go in unless it rolls back. I’m not sure if the transmission is messed up or not and was wondering if any one had this same problem.
Seems pretty easy
Steps to Adjust F35 Shifter Cables
Lock the Shifter: Inside the car, ensure the shifter is in neutral and insert a locking pin (or drill bit) into the slot on the shifter housing to hold it in place.
Lock the Transmission: Under the hood, locate the shift tower on the F35 transmission. Push down on the reverse lockout tab to lock the transmission in neutral.
Release Cable Adjusters: On the shift cables, you will find white or black plastic locking clips. Pull these clips up or loosen the metal nuts to release the cable ends.
Reset Cables: Ensure the cables are seated properly and not binding. The cable end fittings should freely fit onto the shifter and transmission studs.
Secure the Cables: With both the shifter and transmission still locked in neutral, push the locking clips down (or tighten the nuts) to secure the cables in their new position.
Verify Adjustment: Remove the locking pin and the transmission lock. Cycle through all gears—especially reverse and 1st—to ensure smooth engagement without binding.

If the shifter feels "loose" or you struggle to find gears, you may need to adjust the cable ends by a few threads.
