Hitch

Anybody w/ an SS got a hitch on or anyone know of an option to do so? I haven't seen anything that works with the ground effects on the SS...

If you have the Stage 1 kit installed you'll probably yank the tongue off the trailer when you hit 2nd gear!

Seriously, I have thought about doing a hitch myself, just to use my bike rack. I dread the thought of the way it would look though...

Handbook doesn't say "no hitch" just say you aren't to tow anything, definite difference. Many ppl have one to accommodate a bike rack which should be legal.

my Mom has a 2.4L w/ a hitch that fits fine. She hauls a golf cart on a 4hr drive a few times a month from her house here to her beach house. But, I assumed if one like hers was on an SS that it would have to have the ground effects cut to fit. If there was a bumper made that had a spot for the hitch in the middle of it I'd be all over that!

A bike rack is not adding TOW weight and strain to the engine, a hitch with a tralier is

Sounds like you're agreeing with me.

The manual does NOT forbid adding a hitch as was previously stated, since you can legally install one to support a bike rack (no towing weight, no violation of GM's warranty).

But as you subsequently state, the manual does prohibit towing (i.e. a hitch with a trailer).

I think we are in violent agreement The hitch itself is not illegal, just don't drive into the dealership pulling a trailer.

I had originally wanted a hitch on my HHR SS to accommodate a bike rake, however, by removing the front tires we can put BOTH mountain bikes inside the HHR with the back seat folded down.

Got some real heavy moving blankets from Lowes to wrap them up and keep the inside clean. Works great and didn't have to spend a small fortune on a bike rack.
