How to remove Manual shifter console on SS

I have a bad squeak in my SS shifter console and wanted to take it apart to see if I can add something to stop the noise. There was a thread on taking apart the automatic, but the manual has the "riser" and doesn't have the screws referenced in the other thread. I tried just pulling straight up but it didn't budge, and I didn't want to break anything. Has anyone done this? Are there any "how too" pics?
The SS manual is different than the SS auto, or the non SS manuals.

Does anyone else have a noise problem with this area? If so, what did you do? I think hyperv6 used some window caulk on his??

Thanks in advance,

It was Butyl rubber that comes in a roll for windshield. You just tear off a chunk and stick it where it is needed. It is very sticky and works like a gasket.

I was going to post the repair procedure for the console removal, but GM manuals don't show a difference in the standards from the automatic procedure, which is weird. That means the tech just has to figure it out himself.

I'll post a couple of photos later, but in the meantime, just remove the rubber insert from the small silver painted tray in front of the shifter, then (with a rag since the edge is sharp) pull the tray out lifting at the front edge. That gives you access to a couple of fasteners, after you remove those, then just pull up on the whole thing.

C2vette, This is helpful.
So after removing the rubber insert from the coin tray, just pull it up to access the bolts that hold the console in? It looks like there are 2 spring clips. After the 2 bolts are removed, just lift straight up on the console? Maybe 3 more spring clips?

That is just how the Auto. comes apart.

Look for the tabs that it rest on and that is where I placed the sticky rubber to prevent it from rubbing.

Using a rag is a must! I tried yanking on it today... the trim piece... and almost lost my fingers. Sucker hurts!

There are 3 spring clips; one at the back, and one on each side of the console (you can see the back and one side clip in the photo). There is clearance to slide the whole console back a bit after you remove the 2 screws, before you lift up. When you reinstall, be careful that the clips are lined up, as the receptacle side is easy to break if you bend it.
