Hi folks. Found this place while researching HHRs and the SS model and have been lurking until I finally decided to pull the trigger...which was today! It's a Victory Red full window version with the automatic and I'm really hoping to have it before the end of the year, which may be a challenge given the production shut downs this time of year.

I was in search of a fun and practical daily driver to replace both my current ones - a '99 Cherokee and an '01 Mustang GT and I think the HHR SS will give me a nice blend of the two.

Thanks for sharing all the great HHR information and enthusiasm, it really helped me to make my mind up. I haven't owned a GM product since I bought my very first car, a '73 Opel Manta - waaaaaayyyy back when, but I loved that one and I'm looking forward to the new HHR ownership experience and to being a member here.

 

CONGRAT's !! Trust me--time will pass VERY slowly while awaiting your SS... I only have 400 miles on mine thus far--and am very impressed with it's power & handling... Plus the 25 mpg I've been getting!

FYI--I had a '72 Opel Rallye and loved it--got it new and drove it 10 years.. (it was that golden color, non-metallic, with the blacked-out hood and fog lamps)...

I "dumped" a Cherokee .........an '87.........for my HHR as well. Too bad the SS version wasn't available.

 

Nice. I am very sure you will be happy (I am assuming you have heavy stop and go traffic since you chose the auto though). Some of my friends were puzzled by my purchase of an HHR (thought a BMW M3 was a more likely choice for me) but after one ride in my tuned SS they were convinced (big smiles all around). Besides, it is so much more meaningful to leave a 350z sled or a ricer in the dust on an onramp than if you were driving an M3.

During the 9 years I owned it, I added some of the cool mods of the day:

* Pioneer AM/FM CASSETTE deck with FOUR speakers.

* Aftermarket wheels with wide RADIAL tires,

* Koni shocks

* Monza exhaust system,

* BOLDER windshield tint, and those ever popular

* Coco fiber floor mats!

Boy that was a fun car for sure and I miss it to this day. I remember beating up on Vega GTs and the four-popper Capris with that mighty 1.9 litre but the Datsun 510s were impossible to catch in the twisties. Funny now to consider what we used to call performance in the olden days.

Your color was called "Rallye Gold" and it was a pretty popular shade back then on the whole Opel line. So I guess were "soul brothers" again with our HHRs, eh?

 

Yep, my daily commute pretty much dictates the auto. I drove nothing but sticks up to about eight years ago but the stinkin' traffic has gotten so bad that I just gave them up to save what remains of my left knee! Not to worry though, I still have two Mustangs with manuals in the garage for when I feel the need to get out and bang some gears.

And yes, the sleeper aspect of the HHR SS is an irresistable quality!

 

You'll be shocked at the latest MSRPs. I checked just about every option box (except the Perfomance Display) and threw in a few accessories to boot and was able to jack the price up to just over $28k. Paid $2,800 under sticker and expect to collect the $1k rebate when it arrives.

IMO this vehicle is still a great performance buy.
