"I like that better than the PT Cruiser"

I pull up to a gas station the other day and there is this biker couple standing by their bikes watching me as I pull in. I get out and over hear the man say to his wife, "That is the HHR honey". She turns around and says to him "I like that way better than the PT Cruiser!". Then they asked me a bunch of questions about it. Showed them all the features. They really liked it! Way better than the Cruiser!

LOL. I was never a big fan when the PT came out. The interior was okay, but the exterior was not that nice. It just became outdated very quickly. I think the HHR has already retained its "freshness" longer than the PT ever did.

What blows my mind is how terrible the PT Cruiser is on fuel mileage.

I thought that at first, before I really looked at the HHR. To the untrained person (99% of America) they will say it looks like the PT. In reality it completely differs from the PT, in a good way.

Yeah, the only similarity I can see is that they are both "retro" and I think that is why people compare them so much.

The other similarity is that they, PT and HHR, were designed by the same guy, Brian Nesbitt.

The 5 speed PT gets mid 20s to 30 mpg. My modified '03 PT GT could get 30+ on the freeway if I stayed out of boost. A very fun car to drive. It would eat V8s for lunch. My wife's automatic na '04 PT get's low to high 20s on the freeway depending on your foot.
